09:07 AM ET 08.24 | Robert Karlsson has given Europe's Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo a scare with confirmation the in-form Swede is struggling with a neck problem. News of Karlsson's injury could not have come at a worse time for Faldo, who's been rubbing his hands with glee since Padraig Harrington captured last month's Open Championship. His 10-man squad has been in sparkling form, as have Paul Casey and Darren Clarke, who are in line for possible wildcard picks next Sunday night. Karlsson is ranked fifth on the points' table and, all year, the 38-year old has been one of Faldo's best players. He has had two seconds, three thirds in succession, an eighth place in the US Masters, a fourth in the US Open and seventh in The Open. But his manager, Johan Elliot, indicated Karlsson was at home in Monaco unable to practise as he undergoes treatment on his neck. 'His physio has told him not to risk further damage by playing,' said Elliot. 'We hope it is not serious, but he has decided not to play the Omega Masters in Switzerland as a precaution. But, if all goes well, he will play the Mercedes-Benz Championship the week before the Ryder Cup."
