Dodgers eyeing Sabbathia?

The Dodgers might be more likely to sign CC Sabathia than Casey Blake this winter. That, at least, is the way Blake sees it. The two men played together for five seasons in Cleveland, before the Indians traded Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers and Blake to the Dodgers last month. The left-hander is expected to command at least $100 million as the top starting pitcher in free agency, and Blake said Sabathia has shared no inside information about his preferred destinations. Sabathia hails from the Bay Area and has said he is shopping for a home in Southern California.

This signing would fit in perfectly with Jason Schmit

Schmidt. Furcal too.

Here is a little inside info from many reports about CC when he played in Cleveland. He loves SoCal and he loves hitting. You put those two factors together and the Dodgers are the leading candidate without even talking to him. The only thing that could stop him is the players union. Who always pressures the players the take the BIG money contract no matter what.

None of these mid season rumors for free agents are evr true

August 24, 2008  10:27 AM ET

The Yankees are going hard at him, but because Sabathia has a home in LA he'll probably accept less money to play there.

He is gonna go to the LAD or NYY or ATL...guaranteed

bravesfan15
why in the world would he even want to go to the braves?

August 24, 2008  01:53 PM ET

He doesn't,from a Braves standpoit, its nice to imagine guys we could get.

If CC was smart, he would fire his agent and personally interview any team that wants his services: Negotiate, haggle, offer contract money now for personal services consideration later and get a bullpen that's going to support him and they rest of the starters.

People ragged on Kobe for wanting the Lakers to put a TEAM on the floor around him--but look what happened...

An arm of Sabbathia's caliber deserves to pitch in the right rotation, and he would be wise to demand a say in the building of it.

Hello, unless McCheap can get him for free, the Doyers dont have a shot, the only Los Angeles team that spends for top players are the Angels!

August 24, 2008  04:11 PM ET

I think the Dodgers and Yankees will bid it up. LA has the advantage, but we'll see...

He will go where he gets the most money. He is all about the money and no way do the Brewers put that kind of money in him. It makes sense for the Dodgers though since they have seen what he can do in the NL and play teams in their division with pitchers like Webb, Haren, and Lincecum.

LA if they match the Yankees in dollars and years. But the Yankees have a lot to spend.

Ohhhhhh indeed do they have money to spend. No one can match the Yankees dollar for dollar when they are desperate for a top flight starter
