Flacco still in Ravens QB picture

From Steve McNair's abrupt retirement to Troy Smith's sudden illness, the Ravens' quarterback situation has been filled with unexpected twists. After Saturday night's 24-10 loss to the St.. Louis Rams, John Harbaugh provided another one. The Ravens coach left open the possibility that rookie first-round pick Joe Flacco could jump back into contention for a starting job that seemed to be between Smith and Kyle Boller. Rushed into his first start Saturday, Flacco completed 18 of 37 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. The Ravens had hoped Smith could take control of the job Saturday, but the former Heisman Trophy winner couldn't play because of a stomach virus. According to Harbaugh, Smith couldn't speak and remained at the team hotel to watch most of the game.

1st Who cares they need to give up on this season already

August 25, 2008  07:55 AM ET

its a cool image of flacco, but still hope smith gets the nod as starter.

pw I agree - I just don't like what I saw from Flacco when I watched him in college...I lived about 45 min from UD and saw him play...he didn't do anything special against I-AA teams.

1st thing they need to do is CUT boller.
- he is like an anchor dragging them down......I really have NO IDEA what the fascination with him is....he's had a MILLION chances and has done NOTHING, then the choice is between smith & flacco- both young....but at least there is an upside

A sudden virus? There is skulduggery afoot!

August 25, 2008  12:01 PM ET

Flacco is NOT being considered for the starting job. This is a stupid story.

Smith or Boller will be starting this year but i'm sure we'll be seeing a little of all 3 of these QB's during this entire season.

Any NFL team that plays 3 QBs during the regular season is probably in trouble.

I think anyone under the age of 45 is in the Ravens QB picture - wow what a cluster fruck !!!

Uh, ya think ?

August 25, 2008  06:36 PM ET

Smith or Flacco it will not make much diffrence this year.

August 25, 2008  06:58 PM ET

It should be Troy Smith. Flacco can maybe be groomed for the future, but the Ravens should have just banked on Smith this year and spent that draft pick they used on Flacco elsewhere, like their defense or WRs. I'm going 6-10 for the Ravens.

August 25, 2008  09:16 PM ET

Start Smith, drop Boller, bring Flacco along slowly, and bring back Chris Redman who never really got a chance under Billick.

Smith couldn't speak because of a stomach virus? What kind of stomach virus makes you unable to talk?

Cam Cameron passed on Quinn, picked up Ginn and Beck. Beck is on the outs in Miami. He needs to trade for him.
