07:09 AM ET 08.25 | Gilbert Highland point guard Matt Carlino still has three high school basketball seasons to play, but he decided to give his dad/coach a break from all the phone calls he was receiving from college coaches and committed to Indiana during an elite camp this weekend in Bloomington. Carlino, who measured at 6-foot-2 1/2, 170 pounds at the camp, averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists as a freshman starter on the varsity coached by his father, Mark Carlino, a former Arizona State player. He made The Republic's All-Class 5A second team last season. He was sold on new coach Tom Crean, who left Marquette and recently signed a 10-year contract. Carlino received his first offer as a seventh grader from Arizona coach Lute Olson.

A Verbal commitment means everything. Once you've made that commitment to a program, you'd have to be a low-life to back out of it.

IT IS A MATTER OF INTEGRITY. You are to live up to your word. It is
a verbal promise, In times past it meant something and even contracts
were made and it meant you were well trusted, but where is trust in these days.

gordon is a hoosier, not from ill, he has the right to change his mind. but i guess i'd be mad if it were the other way around. this kid has a right to change his mind also. if crean gets in trouble or whatever and iu is on probation because of stupid sampson, then the kid should change his mind. GO I.U.

He's rated #8 in the 2011 Class. That's a long time. Hopefully he continues to progress. He hopes that Crean and Co. will be able to win a National Championship when he gets there. I think that is possible.

His dad has always been a IU hoop fan and would have walked-on there in his wildest dreams, it was only eight weeks ago when everyone was talking nonsense about my team. It looks like we are in the mix in 2 years.!!..!!!!
