Did Springsteen wait for La Russa?

The start of Bruce Springstreen's performance at Scotttrade Center was delayed until near 9 p.m. Saturday. The word on the street was that it was because Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, a friend of Springsteen's, was late in arriving after the Cardinals' rain-delayed loss, but La Russa said Sunday, "It wasn't me." Springsteen started playing just after La Russa arrived, although La Russa said he and his group had been waiting for some 20 minutes. "It looked bad," said La Russa, smiling, "but it wasn't me. He wasn't ready. He was getting his voice." Actually, the concert started late because Clarence Clemons, one of the band members, required some medical attention. La Russa said he needed a lift from Springsteen that night and he got it. "I told him when I said hello to him, 'I'm counting on you to improve my mood,'" said La Russa.

Sadly I think he is losing hope. The season isn't over yet Tony. We can still compete for the wild card.

His mood wasn't quite right? Wow, let's all thank our lucky stars that this all worked out alright!!! The St. Louis post dispatch is deserving of major kudos for this powerfull story.

Odd, I thought Jack Daniels usually improves LaRussa's mood.

Let's see...

We'll posit a rumor, the give the truth at the end. That way, headline readers and story skimmers can get it wrong and spread disinformation. Yeah, THAT's what we'll do!

In Kansas City last night he didn't start until 9pm too. Do you think he was eating barbeque?

August 25, 2008  11:42 AM ET

LaRussa needed the ride because passing out behind the wheel again couldnt just be explained away.

August 25, 2008  11:44 AM ET

Sounds like LaRussa and Springsteen need to go get a room.

No, trey Hillman was eating bbq, when a baby back rib got lodged in his throat. The good news is he was given the Heimlich Maneuver, the rib was dislodged and Mr. Hillman got to the Springsteen concert in one piece albeit late so Bruce waited for him...............
