Blazers hoping Miles fails?

The Celtics have been looking for a replacement for James Posey. They might have found that player in Darius Miles. By waiving Miles, the Blazers took the remaining two years and $18 million on his contract off their salary cap. But if he plays in 10 games in either of the next two seasons, his salary would go back on Portland's books. So the Blazers have to be quietly hoping that Miles never plays another NBA game.

They will not get their wish..

August 25, 2008  08:30 AM ET

No they won't...Darius Miles will probably play decent enough to contribute.

August 25, 2008  08:37 AM ET

All we need from him is some quality minute at his position in a backup role... sounds like the Celtics may have gotten lucky with this move.

He's had two years to rehab... he has plenty of time to get in shape if he can contribute. The Celtics can give him the time he'll need.

And all he has to do is play IN 10 games... not play 10 whole games..

Looks like a win-win deal

Portland did not lose much. That's 18 million for 2 years. Compare that to Starbury's salary and that would be minimum. Portland did not have any roster spot for him anyways. Portland are concern more about chemistry right now instead of getting Miles in the lineup. Miles was more of a detriment to the team so it was better to release him.

"Looks like a win-win deal"

That is not true.
- best case senario he comes back the player he was.....
a SELFISH, NO DEFENSE playing, DUMB player
And his WHOLE game was athleticism......

- after an injury- his overall explosivenes will not be the same.....
so where exactly does this leave a CAREER 10 pt scorer ?

- for minimum salary I'd take im......
but I wouln't expect much

Thats the point... the Celtics aren't risking anything. If he works out great... if not... no harm done. I don't think KG, PP and Ray are going to let him become a distraction.

he can take advantage of a great opportunity or he can squander the chance to maybe get a ring.

It won't hurt the Celtics if he fails but it will do wonders for his career if he works out.

August 25, 2008  09:42 AM ET

I hope he plays again and gets every dime that's due him.

I am NOT wishing ill towards him.....
just stating facts.

NO thats NOT the point....
you failed to resign a QUALITY, DEPENDABLE back-up role player.....
and you are attempting to replace him with someone with NO basketball knowledge and plays NO D...
it is a HUGE mistake

Ok... calm down there big fella... with all the caps it's clear you don't like him much...

Time will tell tho so all we can do is hope it pans out... you may be right ... you may be wrong.

Your opinion doesn't become fact just because you say so... from all I've read there are enough people who think its a good move that can't hurt but might help... I'm with those that see it that way.

looks like a good situation for the celtics. he only has to play in 10 games and his salary will be dumped back on portland. he's a good athlete that can play the perimeter and interior, like posey. he doesnt shoot like posey, but he is a good slasher and finisher, which will direly help the celtics. they missed that last year. he's had two years to rehab. Amare stoudimire had the same deal even though they werent two consecutive years. so hopefully he will return like stoudimire. i hate to see people suffer from knee injuries. it sucks

August 25, 2008  10:11 AM ET

he wasn't a good on Ball defender, but he was a help defender shot blocking, steals machine. none of the high school to pro kids have a clue how to play defense as in High school coaches don't want their studs to foul out so they tend to not focus on D. I think he'll be good Pick up for the Celts

August 25, 2008  10:13 AM ET

Epoch-
sorry for the caps.......

Of course it is an opinion....but it is based on watching his game
- he had talent- but in the NBA...everyone has talent....he just doesn't have it in his heart or his head

lol....he is NO Amare Stoutmire

It makes sense but I still don't see why the Celtics want this guy. He brings a bad aura to a good team.
