Giants' options without Osi

Should the Giants put a big-money offer on the table for Michael Strahan? Consider: It'll have to be really big because Strahan seems to be reveling in life after football. Should the Giants convert Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end? What a yo-yo job that would be. Should they stand pat with what they have? Trades are so hard to pull off during the season in the N.F.L, and unfortunately for the Giants, that's where we are right now -- the season wil start in 10 days.

Take out that Philly game and he had 7 sacks the other games. He is good against the run. Wynn had 5 sacks last year and is good against the run. They will just have to be creative and Spagnuloa is very creative. The Eagles get good pressure on QBs without great DEs. Kiwanuka is filing a need spot now at LB and can be moved up on some plays.
I agree pw, the waiver wire will get you someone you can use add depth. And Robins played DE in Minnesota a few years ago.
It stinks, but that is football. They had injuries last year to their DBs constantly and Kiwanuka and Shockey and figured it out. That is the nature of the beast.

Start courting some Free Agent LBs and DEs.

Time for #6 ..I would not gloat too much. " What goes around ....." Your Cowboys are one player away from mediocrity too. As are a lot of teams.

August 25, 2008  08:14 AM ET

agreed 50yearfan ... I don't wish bad on any team injury wise ... I imagine they'll court Strahan and if that's a no go ... trade or waiver wire ... they could move Kiwanuka, but that would be more disuptive than help ...

August 25, 2008  08:23 AM ET

jctoo ..I tend to agree with you about Kiwanuka. You never make yourself better by making yourself weaker at another spot. There are problems at the LB spot too. Spagnuola is smart though, and will figure out the best to do with the situation he is given.
One thing all good teams have in common is they have good positional coaches and coordinators. It is no mystery why guys like Tuck become good players. They are " coached up." Too many think it is about the draft and getting the right player. That is step one, step two is you have to teach these guys how to be successful in the pros. That is the secret for the Pats and other teams.
I do not think the rosters are big enough now though. And game day you should be able to dress more players. Just my opinion. Maybe they will deal with that soon. It is a violent game.

Sorry but I would look for a free agent or work with what I have.. I liked Micheal but getting a player who clearly is at the end.. it is a quick fix that will probally not come close to working.

**** happens! Deal with it!

August 25, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Strahan knows the defense and the players so bringing him back won't be bad. I think they need Strahan now that Osi is out of the picture since it was defense that helped them beat the Pats and it will be defense that will have to help get them back to the playoffs.
