JR Motorsports' Nationwide Series star Brad Keselowski has declined an opportunity to move to the Sprint Cup Series next season with Penske Racing, The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned. Keselowski, who won his second race of the season Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, spent last Tuesday visiting the Penske shop, where he met members of the organization and was offered the chance to drive the team's No. 12 Dodges next season, several sources confirmed Saturday. Keselowski, 24, declined the offer, sources said. Keselowski did not immediately return a call for comment Saturday night.

How many guys can afford to turn down open Cup rides? He has something cooking on the back burner....I am guessing Hendrick equipment stew.

Smart Boy!

If the cost of the COT for nationwide is going to make JR move his organization to cup and he will have Brad as his #1 driver.

Asbel you hit the nail on the head,
watch and see what this boy does.
good call buddy.

When an up and coming driver with the talent of Keselowski DECLINES your offer to help him move up to the top level of racing, you really have to step back and re-evaluate your program. Kids with the ultimate intent of getting to the Sprint cup will take just about any ride they can....except Penske evidently. Good move IMO....wait for another team to make an offer that has a chance to put you in the winners circle.

Correct-to Asbel, He is already setting with a up and coming winning team!

August 25, 2008  09:22 AM ET

he is going to drive for DEI when JR buys them out and kick's the widow, the widow humper and every one else that was with her to the curb.

August 25, 2008  09:29 AM ET

I have a pretty good idea that the plan will be for Brad to split the 5 ride with Martin in 2010 then have him drive the car full time starting in 2011. Unless of course Dale Jr. does buy out TE and then he would likely drive over there or if Asbel is right and he does move the team to Cup then Brad will drive the Cup car.

Speaking of DEI, has Menard decided what he is going to do? I know they have signed Truex Jr. and Bass Pro Shops for next year. Do they have any sponsors other than that actually signed? What is the Army going to do with the 8, I know they have to have one year deals per federal law, but has anything been signed for Almirola? What about the 01?

He's going to take Mark Martins ride after next year. Anyways, driving for Penske right now would be like driving for Hall of Fame Racing. Smart move by this youngster.

Good Call Brad, you have one helluv a teacher.

August 25, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Either JRM is going cup racing with Brad, or Brad is waiting in the wings for the 5 (or 24?) when their current driver retires.

August 25, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Gutsy decision. But Penske isn't much to shout about right now so he probably did the right thing.

August 25, 2008  10:54 AM ET

As Asbel said, Brad's pie in the sky is coming on later and he knows it will be worth the wait........as others have said good call Brad.

August 25, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Brads no Nascar ****!
Don't know what that means, But I said it!

I don't believe anyone will be able to get him to leave JR MS.

August 25, 2008  11:45 AM ET

JR Motorsports will be in the Cup series next year and Brad's their guy, nice move by Dale Jr and Brad to keep this winning combination together.

August 25, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Who in their right mind would want to drive for Penski right now.. As most of you have said he has something else up his sleeve!!
