Coach Randy Shannon announced the one-game suspensions of seven University of Miami football players on Sunday, including redshirt freshman quarterback Robert Marve. First-year freshman Jacory Harris, who led Miami Northwestern High to two consecutive state titles, will start the season opener against Charleston Southern on Thursday night at Dolphin Stadium. The other players suspended: running back Damien Berry, receiver Kayne Farquharson, fullback Eric Houston, long snapper Chris Ivory, defensive end Adewale Ojomo, and safety Randy Phillips. The two possible starters among them were senior Farquharson and redshirt freshman Ojomo.

Lol. Typical coaching technique. Sending a message without saying anything. We went through this yesterday. It is Charleston Southern. He knows it does not matter who he plays....But it sounds good...

It's Charleston Southern. I could probably start at QB and win that game.

I'm not knocking the U for playing Charleston Southern, browardcane. What I am saying is that it's not really a big deal to suspend these guys because they are playing Charleston Southern.

If they were playing against Florida State week 1, then I would be impressed by Shannon's actions.

Everyone plays a cupcake to start off you idiots. Look at this.
"Ohio State"
Sat. Aug. 30 Youngstown State @ Ohio St.
Sat. Sept. 6 Ohio @ Ohio St.
Sat. Sept. 13 Ohio St. @ USC
Sat. Sept. 20 Troy University @ Ohio St.
Three out of the first four are cupcakes and three out of the four are at home.

Miami
Thu. Aug. 28 Charleston Southern @ Miami
Sat. Sept.6 Miami @ Florida
Sat. Sept 20 Miami @ Texas A&M

I mean which schedule is tougher? Give me a break all you crybabies.

j hova.....i know. im not gettin on u...its the 1st game of the yr though regardless..if it was fsu shannon would of done the same thing

August 25, 2008  10:24 AM ET

browardcane: Thank you. Unlike two other Canes fans at least you read what I said to understand where I was coming from.

Anyway, I do believe that Shannon would have suspended them regardless of the opponent. He is someone with class and integrity. That I understand.

Wrong! Not every team schedules Patsies in Football. That is a myth. Basketball, yes. Here is UCLA football for 2008. Find the Charleston Southern in this schedule..I know what you are saying, but to say "all" teams do it is just not true. This is just one example.

vs. Tennessee
at BYU TV
vs. Arizona
vs. Fresno State .
vs. Washington State
at Oregon
vs. Stanford
at California
vs. Oregon State

August 25, 2008  11:28 AM ET

50 yr fan... they are in the Pac-10, you have Patsies built in due to the conference schedule.

August 25, 2008  11:44 AM ET

What is it with all of these prime time players not respecting the opportunity that they have? It's a little ridiculous.

August 25, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Unfortunately Miami fell 16 players short of matching FSU's 23 bowl game suspensions last year. j/k.

unlike powerhouses like Vanderbilt & Ol Miss. who really put the fear into their foes.

On some real ness I am happy for Jacory Harris. He was a pretty good HS QB so I hope he makes the best out of this opportunity.

August 25, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Back to topic... Nice to see a coach actually suspend players regardless of if it is cup-cake U they are playing.

August 25, 2008  01:06 PM ET

UCanes1 are you serious? If you knew what you were posting you would realize that the Troy program is dangerous. In fact, many Buckeye fans think it is a scarry game right after USC. As for Youngstown State, it is a well respected "subdivision" program. Tressel won 3 NC while there and is giving the school a payback payday. A decade ago, or so, it was mandated to OSU play at least one in0state school, hence Ohio U. But Charleston Southern? Do they play football?

On another point, I've read many hate postings for Coker by "The U" fans, while at the same time, worshipping Shannon as your savior. So now we have 7 players suspended, not to mention the scuffle with Fla International. I know you'll explain it all away with some rediculous BS, but from here it looks like the beat goes on.

August 25, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Wow, a Buckeye is going to jump on Miami for schedule IAA teams? And then gonna jump on them for an on-field fight. I remember an on-field scuffle between Illinois and Ohio St.

People who live in stone houses shouldn't throw glass

August 25, 2008  01:34 PM ET

OSU fans are all the same...they are the biggest BS talkers on here even though they got blown out 2 yrs in a row in the BCS game...they pick on the canes players even though they recruited them too

OSU has one tough game this yr at USC..thats it
