Mother decided Laraque's future
Daryl Katz so wanted Georges Laraque here as the Edmonton Oilers' nightly beat cop, the new owner offered the big guy a four-year contract -- one more year than the Montreal Canadiens were pitching the right winger. Laraque still took the Habs' $4.5-million offer -- mainly because his mother in Montreal wanted to see him play games in the flesh, not on TV. Laraque parted ways with the Oilers in 2006, signing in Phoenix. He was dealt to Pittsburgh in 2007. In Laraque's latter days here, Oilers coach Craig MacTavish didn't feel he needed a slugger in his lineup every night.

MacTavish was right. "Big George" forgot what dropping the gloves meant last year. People were taking liberties with Crosby and Malkin and he didn't do squat about it. Hell, in one game, Malkin and Sykora got into fights, but old Georgie was worried about his...ahem, offensive side. I say Good Riddence.

Yeah. That sounds about right! Mama's boy! And he plays like it too! Every once in a while he gets very angry that his mommy is controlling his life and goes out and beats the heck out of somebody on the ice! That's about all he's good for!

You're a day late and a dollar short to join that circus, Duke! The Oil have signed as many players as they need! Try again!

I just read on the MMA threads that Laraque's mom and Donovan McNabb's mom (Wilma) are going to be part of the co-main-event the next EliteXC MMA card. Chunky Soup and Molson Canadian are co-sponsoring the event.
