His first name is pronounced "moof-tah-oh." His friends call him Moof. But as of yesterday, you can call Mouphtaou Yarou a Villanova Wildcat. Yarou, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward from Benin, West Africa, made an oral commitment to join the Wildcats' freshman class in 2009, according to his guardian. Yarou, who came to the United States about nine months ago, played last season for Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va. He will spend his senior season at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., where he will be a teammate of Isaiah Armwood's, another player who has committed orally to Villanova's 2009 freshman class. Yarou's guardian, Chris Timba, said Yarou committed yesterday to Villanova because the Wildcats were the first school to show an interest in him. Timba said Connecticut, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Pittsburgh recruited Yarou heavily but that he already had built a strong relationship with Villanova.
