Michigan to play two QBs

Rich Rodriguez has been asked dozens of times and still is not budging. The Michigan football coach repeated Monday that he has not settled on a quarterback for Saturday's opener against Utah, as Nick Sheridan and Steven Threet continue to compete. Players were reluctant to evaluate the quarterbacks on the field -- other than receiver Greg Mathews saying Sheridan's the comedian and Threet's more serious -- but Rodriguez said the two have made progress since the spring.

oy...this is going to be exciting and scary to watch at the same time, sort of like watching a pending train blowing it's horn to a car that is stalled on the tracks and hoping that car gets off in time. I am hoping that UM sheds it's early nervous energy and settles down to beat the UTES! Just gotta keep the mistakes to a minimum. That will be hard to do, I admit.

What? Michigan had a coaching change? Lots of new young players? Adjustment period? Unrest at key positions? No offensive line anyways? Trouble on the horizon?

Screw it, this season will be fun. I can't wait to step into the big house, say what the hell happened to it. I can't wait to be the trap game on peoples schedule.

I am there on Saturday, I hope to see many of you there too!

He might end up playing 4 QB's before it's done. He doesn't have one that fits his system

August 26, 2008  08:29 AM ET

If the O-Line question isn't settled and the Defense doesn't live up this the billing they are receiving then it will not matter who starts at QB (except if his name is Houdini), they will be spending all their time in avoiding looking at the new construction of the Stadium from their back sides! Rich the Rod better pray the lessons from the debacle last season!

August 26, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Well he better pick one right or wrong... cant do the two QB thing

August 26, 2008  08:48 AM ET

New QB, new RB, no Long/Manningham/Arrington...defenses are going to be sending people left and right after these two. I wouldn't want to be either of them this year.

August 26, 2008  09:03 AM ET

We knew this was the outcome. Wake me up when he actually picks one of them.

August 26, 2008  09:12 AM ET

Hey, how much did it cost Michigan to bail the Coach out of his screwup at his last job.. Just remember Mich., you don't have a stand up guy like you did in Carr. Don't trust his "word" I do wish you luck cause I like to see the Big 10 do well. I'm just not convienced your choice of your new Coach was a good one!!

August 26, 2008  09:47 AM ET

He's got a freshman as his #1 tailback, why not throw a couple different Qb's in there.

August 26, 2008  09:53 AM ET

UM fans remember that it seems that when a team is supposed to be in a rebuilding year that usually kick butt way beyond expectations.

August 26, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Play Justin Feagin while you are at it. Or how about Carlos Brown. I have no problem with Rich Rodriguez playing multiple QB's as long as one emerges as the clear cut starter.

Are you trying to gain confidence in the idea that Michigan will beat UTAH? Must be sad to be a Wolverine fan

August 26, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Usually when you have more QB's leaving school than you plan on playing and either number is greater than 1....helloooooooooo 4 win season

Sincerely,

Charlie Weis

Utah would be a tough opener for anyone this year, coming off a good season and a good performance in a bowl game, they shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone.

August 26, 2008  11:44 AM ET

I believe that after Rod" gets the players he wants and has 2-3 years to convience the players there that his offense will work, that Mich. will be a very good team.. I just hope that Coach doesn't think he gets a better offer from someone else and leaves Mich. high and dry like he did his last team..

August 26, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Prediction, they barely beat out IU for big ten bottom feeders.

August 26, 2008  12:12 PM ET

Ohio-#88 fan...I seriously doubt the UM faithful will tolerate 3 years of mediocre football to let RR "find his offense." If they are struggling by year three he better have his resume up to date...

August 26, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Yeah I think they will give him this year, but he better get atleast 9 or 10 wins with a bowl win next year or AA will be upset

August 26, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Is it actually true UM is a 4.5pt dog to Utah?

August 26, 2008  01:15 PM ET

Here comes street football.I hope MICHIGAN wakes up and fire RR before that SOB runs MICHIGAN football into the ground.
