Devils let Vishnevski go to Russia

Defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski has cleared waivers and the Devils will grant his request to play in Russia in the upcoming season, general manager Lou Lamoriello said Sunday. "He expressed the desire to go back to Russia for personal reasons," Lamoriello said. Vishnevski, 28, probably would not have been in the team's plans for 2008-09 because they have seven other NHL defensemen under contract and 2006 first-round draft pick Matt Corrente is expected to make a push to make the team in training camp.

in other words, "Get the **** out of here Vitaly".

"Personal reasons" my butt. This is financial reasons. And Lou looks like he is posing for a KGB photo op in front of the Kremlin here.

This move is all about the money pure and simple. Thats how Lou runs things. He got his use out of him and now he's gone.

That's not Lou Lamoriello! That's Mikhail Gorbachev! He just had his Red Russia tatoo removed from his forehead!

I was gonna go with Dick Cheney's Russian half-brother. Put some glasses on him, you couldn't tell the difference. Lenin had a goatee.

August 26, 2008  12:06 PM ET

Yeah, I forgot about that part LOL. Maybe the formaldehyde dissolved it.

Maybe later in life Lenin is who you were talking about. When he was excommunicated from the Soviet Union, he shaved his goatee and came back to once again take over.

vitaly was a part timer for the devs last year anyway...

not sure why some of you doubt the "personal reasons"

hmm, a russian player wants to play in russia....how suspicious.

August 26, 2008  01:45 PM ET

Personal reasons,eh? Is it possible that NO TEAM WANTS HIM? i think thats more like it. Cleared waivers. No gm offered him a contract. What other option does he have? Work at Burger King?

August 26, 2008  03:56 PM ET

He could move to Canada and work at Tim Horton's. Or Swiss Chalet.

August 26, 2008  04:50 PM ET

At Tim Hortons or Swiss Chalet?

I say Tim Hortons. Maybe he'll give us some free coffee.

Seabird: Can i order a large double-double. Hold the spit.
Vishnevski: would you like a face wash with that sir?
Seabord: Yes,preferrably with game worn sweaty gloves.
Vishnevski: The game worn gloves will cost you extra

LOL.

August 26, 2008  10:18 PM ET

May I have a complementary Poutain with those?

August 26, 2008  10:41 PM ET

Poutine at Tim Hortons? Thats a very good idea there seabird.

Lou is clearly half-Italian mafia/ half Russia mob. But he's only a mid-level guy. Not a made man. One wrong move and he'll be taking a dive into the East River wearing a pair of cement boots. If he's lucky they'll give him a final meal consistig of a bowl of borscht following by a plate of spaghetti ending with a glass of Chianti and three shots of vodka to wash it all down and dull the pain.

August 27, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Hmmmmmmmm..... Chunky soup and beer. Borscht and spaghetti. Chianti and vodka. A man of contrasting tastes you are, Yoda.

As for Lou, let's hope he doesn't get an invitation to Umberto's in Little Italy. He can provide his own red sauce for the clams......

Yoda,

What happened to your post on the previoous ( Sakic ) thread? You were cut off. Too much to drink???? Things were getting a bit hairy there.......whatever happened to WT anyway??????
