Joba working back from DL

The New York Yankees have a plan for Joba Chamberlain's re-entry from the disabled list, but they aren't showing their cards. "We are taking it step by step," GM Brian Cashman said yesterday after Chamberlain threw a 35-pitch bullpen session at Yankee Stadium with pitching coach Dave Eiland supervising. "I am not open to talk about what's next because if there is a hiccup it's big news when it really isn't." Out since walking off a Texas mound Aug. 4 with what was diagnosed as right rotator cuff tendinitis, Chamberlain threw sliders and curveballs for the first time yesterday. He is slated to throw again Thursday. Though manager Joe Girardi firmly believes Chamberlain will make it back before the season ends -- regardless of where the Yankees are in the standings - it's not known in what role Chamberlain will come back as.

I said all along he should have started as a stopper or set up and built his arm up. I realize with their injuries they needed him as a starter but clearly they better work him back right and think about years and a career. I am not a fan but he is a solid pitcher and if used and developed right.. could have a strong career. However, teams now a days only look at the moment and not future.

Can someone please explain to me what this guy has ever done to command the kind of attention he gets? Decent ERA, barely above .500 for his record, never pitched in a game that matters.....

August 26, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Who cares??? Get off his *ick!

August 26, 2008  09:35 AM ET

I'm just shocked there isn't a Yanks vs Sox thread today. Someone at FN must be asleep at their post.

there never is bc...on the day of the rivalry, down the stretch, no thread? We will make our own.
Oh, Joba comes back as a starter, I care, he is going top be an ace if he stays healthy, give him another year before he reches that level though.
