Music blared and airhorns blasted. A throng of about 500 screaming fans sang Ron Artest's name and cheered his every thought. Artest had arrived, bringing his reputation from nine often tumultuous NBA seasons. The Rockets had become his fourth NBA team. But never before had he been so embraced. "It just showed what type of city Houston is," Artest said after Monday's brief midday rally at Toyota Center. "It just showed me I'm definitely going to be in an arena that's full of energy, full of excitement. Having a chance to have those fans on my side, instead of against me, is going to help me play better. -- It's only August. When we start winning a whole bunch of games, I can imagine how it's going to be."

they have stars and a deep bench - lakers beware you are going down

Go H-Town!

August 26, 2008  09:33 AM ET

The Rockets are setting up to make some noise (if they can keep Yao healthy).

August 26, 2008  09:44 AM ET

stay healthy and kick laker ****

August 26, 2008  10:56 AM ET

All three of them have to stay healthy for this thing to work.

August 26, 2008  11:04 AM ET

I know Luis Scola can play. But the way he played against the great US of America team, he can't just be a support to Yao and TMac. The Rockets should design a few plays for him.

I think Artest will be OK as long as the team continues in a positive direction. At the 1st full moon, and a 3 game losing streak is when he may be expected to slap a cheerleader at the half.

August 26, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Slap a cheerleader at the half, how about Choke his coach like Spree, maybe an assistant coach. It could even be Doug Collins on TNT when Collins talks about Artest on air.

Now all the rockets need to do is get McLazy out of town.......

August 26, 2008  01:19 PM ET

Well the rockets will have a great big 3 if yao & mcrady can stay healthy but i have 2 questions, anyone can answer with their own opinion...
Can the rockets finally after 3+ seasons with mcrady get past the jazz, Lakers or spurs?

August 26, 2008  01:31 PM ET

they have a decent big 3 now, but not even close to Boston's big 3.

August 26, 2008  01:31 PM ET

If all healthy-
the rockets big 3 have the best 'talent' out of any of the top teams best 3......

That being said-
I have never been a tmac fan-all the offensive talent in the world- but is so damn lazy....he barely even takes it to the hole much, he's comfortable settling for jump shots
He has never been a decent defender & worst of all....these attributes don't simply change after 10 years in the league.

I am not saying they 'can't' win with tmac
- I just think there is a huge piece of the puszzle missing from this guy- heart

August 26, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Kevin Garnett- WAY better than Yao
Paul Pierce- better than artest
Ray Allen-better shooter than mcgrady

August 26, 2008  01:44 PM ET

All of u are right the rockets will make the playoffs as usual but they arent going anywhere.
West teams they cant beat: Lakers, Jazz, Hornets.
East teams they cant beat: Celtics, Magic, Heat, cavs.

August 26, 2008  01:49 PM ET

im a celtics fan so i just hope they really beat up on the lakers in the playoffs

August 26, 2008  02:22 PM ET

Let's keep in mind, that after Scola's performance last year, and at the Olympics, the Rockets have not only a Big Three (which Boston, LA, and the old Chicago teams proved you need to be successful), they may have a Big Four. You can run any combination of McGrady (when healthy), Yao (ditto), Scola, and Artest on to the floor and play big, small, quick, whatever you need. I'm looking forward to the season.

August 26, 2008  03:01 PM ET

to joe dew did artest slap a teacher during half time?

August 26, 2008  03:02 PM ET

i mean cheerleader

August 26, 2008  03:12 PM ET

"they have a decent big 3 now, but not even close to Boston's big 3."

He was talking about the west.........

But if regarding Boston-
KG>Yao
Pierce>McLazy
Artest > Allen

Win games and I don't think you have a problem with Artest.
