Giants reach out to Strahan

A team source confirmed that the Giants have made preliminary contact with Michael Strahan while he vacations in Greece, broaching the topic of a comeback. While getting Strahan will certainly cost more than the $4 million he was due to earn in 2008 before he retired, if Strahan's demands are near the reported $12 million he could be seeking, the Giants would almost certainly pass.

If there is any truth to the "...if they ask nicely..." portion of the quote attributed to Strahan in response to whether or not he'd be willing to return for the '08 season, I would have my doubts about his return. That sounds like someone seeking vengeance not someone wanting to contribute to a team.

They are not $12 million under the cap. I just don't see it, not with those numbers. Kiwanuka has been moved back to DE.

Michael already has a broadcasting gig, (the network loves him because he can hold the mic in his teeth). I think this is all wild speculation. I would like to see him return.......but this is far fetched!

$12 million? Yea, Plax will really be mad about that. Here's a list of salary cap room, don't know how accurate it is

jj730 ..Thanks. Was too lazy to try to find them myself today. You are right though, never know how accurate those things are. But is a start.

August 26, 2008  08:16 AM ET

yeah that sounds like a deal breaker.

August 26, 2008  08:18 AM ET

BTW love the Coughlin image, is he doing a jig or river dancing?

August 26, 2008  08:32 AM ET

The giants are desperate but no DE is worth 12 million

August 26, 2008  08:32 AM ET

Over rated and washed up the last few years. Has his moments, but that more because Usi became the focus to block, leaving the vet one on one all the time. If he is getting the extra blocker, expect alot of 0's in the output catagory... The 4 million is too much, forget the 12, plus hes out of shape and out of the gym, its not like last year where he was so so, the tooth is probably going to take 2 months to even get in shape

August 26, 2008  08:36 AM ET

If they do sign him for $12 million, what happens if he gets hurt? They'll have no cap at all. Their best option is to watch and see who gets cut in the next week or 2. Or just keep Tuck and Mathias. They did draft the kid out of B.C. in the 1st rd to play DE. It's time he earned his money.

August 26, 2008  08:41 AM ET

As a G-men fan I wouldnt give Strahan all of that money. I think we are better off, developing a new/young DE for future generations. Strahan did what he had to do when he retired, who's to say he will come and play 100% when he's only playing for one season. No way, it is a bad deal on and all... Let's see who gets cut/released forst perhaps we can find some decent DE's there.

I know no one has said anything from this post but from the last Gaints one people were so since that one is pushed out of the way with the new ones ill repost all here

To all of you Skin haters out there talking about them backing in and lsoing in the preseason you cant be for real. Yes we were at a had to win, but it wasnt like we have to win and they have to lose for us to make it. The Vikings had a chance we took it, and on top of that we beat the cowboys, and the gaints to
make it in. We had a hard scehdule last year and still made it. Look at how many playoff teams we played before you go talking on the record. We lost too 4 conference champions and the Super Bowl Champ wow thats 5 of our 7. We lost to the bills due to Gibbs calling consecutive timeouts and at the moment i cant think of the other team we lost to oh yeah the Eagles, not a bad team

Not only that Chicago was not a playoff contender, neither was Minnesota. The Cowboys got beat by the Redskins in Week 17 in a meaningless game, and the Giants won the Super Bowl. The Redskins couldn't beat the Seahawks. Come on, scalp_taker, don't be delusional.

We killed the cowboys starters so say they didnt try if you want. Tony was out there trying to get resords for the cowboys and couldnt so then they took him out. Give me a break on that. Every Cowboy fan uses that. You know you should go sit down and try and watch the games every now and again. The Vikes and the Bears had a Chance to make it in, but it was the Redskins place to lose and guess what they didnt.

I see them giving him 10 million....

I don't know why this is here. And you didn't kill the Cowboys "starters". T.O., Newman, Gruode, Ratliff didn't play. That's 4 starters who didn't play. And Owens had 4 TD's the previous time he played the Redskins so he would have made a difference before you try to throw that out there..

August 26, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Cofield, Tuck, Kiwi, Alford, Jeremy Clark, Nwagbuo, and our up and coming disvoveries of Henderson So. Miss. and USC -DE Alex Morrow <-- remember them names.

August 26, 2008  09:30 AM ET

It would appear that Accoursi made the right moves when he kept drafting DE in those drafts. Osi, Tuck, the Kiwanuka even when Strahan was there. He caught some heat for it. Bet the owners are glad now. Not sure the guy ever got the credit he deserved for putting that team together that won it all last year and at the same time was the third youngest in the league.

August 26, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Henderson got cut weeks ago. Guess he was not highly motivated...The first Reese draft pic to get cut. That is his claim to fame now.
