The Bengals refused to confirm an NFL Network report that wide receiver Chad Johnson has a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. Wearing a harness for stability, Johnson claimed Monday, Aug. 25, he needs surgery, but won't get it - that he'll play through the injury and be in the starting lineup at Baltimore on Sept. 7. "I need surgery, but there's still nothing wrong with me," he said. "I'm not going to have (surgery). For what? I've got a season to play." Johnson said he spoke with "about 10 guys," including Kellen Winslow II and Donte Stallworth, who endured similar injuries.

Can't get that big contract without playing hurt..

August 26, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Chad was fine once they stuck a band-aide on it and Marvin kissed his boo-boo.

Please look at me! I'm Chad Johnson! Look at me! My shoulder hurts! Look at me!

August 26, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Say what you want, he could puss out and use the shoulder as an excuse not to play, but he's gonna man up and play through it.

"Say what you want, he could puss out and use the shoulder as an excuse not to play, but he's gonna man up and play through it."

hope you are correct sir. but suspect the fact he's bringing attention to the injury already means, he's pre-packing his excuse. and the fact the bengals have started looking for yet another WR, says what their concerns are too.

This is about to play hurt. I don't know what doctors you all know, but I don't know how you can fake a torn labrum? Say what you want about Chad off the field, the man plays hard in between the white lines..

OUCHO CINCO THAT SUCKING SOUND YOU Hear is the millons of dollars being sucked out your next contract!

Sincerely,

NFL Management

Iamright...I wish that was the way the modern athlete thinks, but if OUCHO CINCO had signed his new deal last year and got his guaranteed money last year he'd be having that surgery yesterday and heading off for a year of vacation and rehab. It's always about the $$$$$$ now.

August 26, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Even with the money, he's not stepping out to get the surgery and still getting paid. I like that he'll deal with it and play it through. I'd rather see players like him, sucking it up and playing. Its better than getting paid for sitting on the bench.

August 26, 2008  11:15 AM ET

its always about the money...i'm not really for playing hurt though - it's not like you're tiger woods playing hurt in the us open, this is the nfl, remember what happened to kevin everett...you're health comes first

Labral tear: A labral tear occurring in the front part of the shoulder is called Bankart???s lesion, which is found in dislocating shoulders. It gives rise to pain as well as fear of impending dislocation in certain arm positions. A tear of labrum in the superior portion of labrum (SLAP lesion) is also a significant cause of pain in sportspersons participating in throwing activities. It results in pain in certain positions of arm as well as clicking sounds.

Chad Johnson is a warrior and always has been. I don't necessarily like his side show antics, but he is a top notch receiver and always wants to win. The reason he wants out of Cincy is because he sees, despite all their talent, they are continuously sliding backwards. He was happy when Lewis first got to Cincy and they seemed as if they would win a Super Bowl in the near future. He wants out now because, despite being loaded with talent, that team will never win with the current ownership. Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson are two of the best at their positions and are wasting their careers in Cincy. I'm not a big fan of the grandstanding and yapping, but Johnson never does anything offensive. Despite what anyone says; he will definitely get the big bucks with another team when his contract is up---and he deserves it.

He's just trying to get more attention.

August 26, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Bummer, he has a torn ****. Boy, that's gotta hurt. Torn ****. Darn shame. Just a shame. It's gotta be a slap to your pride to tear your ****. Ocho, I hope your **** heals real fast. Ouch, torn ****. Man, that's gotta smart.

I would to. But if I had a chance to increase my worth, I would go out and play.

I should have said "Schmabia? Did I say Schmabia???" Apparently we are censoring medical terms now.
