Peyton Manning is expected to participate in a full-squad practice for the first time Tuesday, the next step in his recovery from knee surgery. The Indianapolis Colts quarterback has been on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing July 14 surgery on his left knee to remove an infected bursa sac. Coach Tony Dungy said today the plan is to remove Manning from the PUP list, which would make him eligible to practice.

In his own way, this guy is as classic and great as any athlete on the planet and watching his precision close up is awe inspiring. But at the same time, his aplomb at running an offense is like watching a blue collar machine operator running the controls for a fast changing process or a clerk doing forms on a computer. Just 'a rocking through the job. Depressing for defenders at times, though.

Stay off the field, Preston! You're not feeling that well yet! Why risk it? It can cost you the season! Don't come back till a week after the season opener? Please? (From a Bears fan)
