Disgruntled Bear wants trade

Bears defensive back Ricky Manning Jr. said the organization has denied his request to either seek a trade or be released, a move that he believes puts him in a bind heading into the 2008 season. The disgruntled Manning Jr. said the request was made through his agent, Jim Ivler. According to an NFL source, the Bears did shop Manning Jr. but found no takers. He is due to make $1.85 million this season and $4.75 million next season as part of the five-year, $21 million deal he signed in 2006, when he left Carolina as a restricted free agent. Manning Jr. is expected to be released as Saturday's 53-man roster deadline approaches. Interested teams would seem more inclined to wait until he is released rather than give up a draft pick via trade.

I figured they would get rid of Ricky Manning Jr, they haven't played him too much and he is pretty skilled, he was just a lot of money for a bench guy

Somebody will get him. I'm sure the Browns will be watching what happens

They should trade him. Judging by that picture, he looks like he's sixty. That is too old to be playing DB in the NFL.

Serves you right Ricky...should not have left Carolina.....

August 26, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Wow... Ricky Manning and Lovie Smith sure do look a lot alike.... almost like twins or something...

I hope we don't regret this move, you can never have too many DB's. Losing Chris Harris and Todd Johnson came back to haunt us last year. Oh well, I have trust in Lovie's decision and the young players on our team.

Not trying to bash the Bears, but isn't the same man who kept Grossman as QB and drafted an 0-lineman with a bad back?

August 26, 2008  08:45 AM ET

I'm glad I'm not a bears fan

August 26, 2008  09:13 AM ET

H-Town will take him off ur hands!

Ricky Manning DOES look more like a coach in that picture than he does a player. Especially with that worried expression on his face.

August 26, 2008  09:20 AM ET

Why they have a picture of Lovie up? *blank stare*

Like I said, Kyle is our quarterback.

DBs are hard to come by - even if old and gray. For spot defense, Manning would do OK and his experience would benefir any D backfield. He'll be picked soon - even with his baggage - by a team that wants that kind of experience and a quality sub at the ready. swede

I don't understand...wasn't he tied with Urlacher for team lead in interceptions on limited playing time last year? I think the Bears are going to regret letting him go.
