Why Dodgers passed on Dunn

I can't really blame the Dodgers for passing on Adam Dunn and allowing the Diamondbacks to claim him and make a trade for him. The Dodgers had understandable fears the Reds might stick L.A. with Dunn, a chance the Dodgers didn't want to take considering their glut of outfielders. While Cincinnati probably wouldn't have done that, the Dodgers still didn't want to risk it.

Dunn strikes out more than he hits.

He is not worth the big money..........

August 26, 2008  08:46 AM ET

good idea.

I'm just glad he is gone. Nothing personal, but my Reds need to turn the corner and could'nt do it with Dunner.

I have a baaaad feeling that the baseball threads will be extermely tedious today...

August 26, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Dodgers are also recovering from the Jones mess.. that set them back.

August 26, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Only three new threads...
They could have at least thrown us a B*nds thread, there is something out there for that. Nothing like a good B*nds bashing.

August 26, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Why? Because have you ever seen him play a fielding postion? Uck! He end is baseball life as a DH.......:/

You're telling me Manny didn't do or say something stupid in the past 24 hours or AROD didn't get spotted eating w/ some trannny American gladiator pro wrestler named Tornado or Kong? What is this world coming to!

August 26, 2008  10:52 AM ET

Slow day in baseball.. do not worry Bonds threads are coming. Ruling on case expected soon.

August 26, 2008  10:54 AM ET

I'm glad they did pass. I can't stand players like this...sure, they go yard (i.e. Howard too), but they just stand their and hack away. No thanks

Does it really matter now? The Dodgers have Manny and the D-Backs have Dunn.

This article is about as interesting as an analysis of why John Stamos doesn't have Rebecca Romain anymore. Who cares?! Jerry O'Connell's got her now and Stamos has baby oil and late night Cinemax. Moving on...

August 26, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Because he hits left handed and they don't need 8 outfielders?

August 26, 2008  12:35 PM ET

The Dodgers had fears the Reds might stick LA with Dunn? WHAT???

The Dodgers were afraid the Reds would FORCE them to take Dunn? This doesn't make sense at all.

August 26, 2008  01:05 PM ET

I'll tell you why they passed on Dunn... They got a guy at the deadline named MANNY RAMIREZ! It has nothing to do with being afraid, they just don't have room for him with ManRam, Kemp, and Ethier, as well as Juan Pierre. This article was a complete waste of space.

Wow, every player strikes out more than they hit. Also, BA is the most over-rated garbage ever. This man can mash like no other and he still gets on base around a .370-.380 clip. The man is a force and a half at the plate. His defense OTOH, is only better than Manny Rameriez. Still his offense still vastly out produces his defense. The Dodgers passed because they didn't have room like others have said. Unless they stuck him at 1st which he amazingly sucked at. If I'm a Reds fan, I'm sad that he's gone. They weren't getting it done with him because the pitching and the rest of the offense SUCKED. At least their future looks really bright.

August 26, 2008  03:42 PM ET

He's the Ishtar of power hitters...

August 26, 2008  05:18 PM ET

i think the dodgers should have went after him because if the dodgers got him they would be incredible because they now have gregg maddux, casey blake and manny ramerez they could no doubt win the world series

August 26, 2008  05:31 PM ET

I agree with Skippy: How could the Reds STICK the Dodgers with Dunn? What, has MLB trading become some blind date, white elephant swap or enforcement con?

Somebody's editor seat just got real hot....

How many "stiffs" can you put in the lineup ??? Also, seems Manny is coming down to earth - "I'm soo surprised" !!! He is like a little kid - as you people in LaLa land will see - likes the "toys" for a little while then gets bored and - voila - "Manny Being Manny" happens !!!
