Greg Norman on Tiger Woods, in Men's Vogue: "This generation of golfers has just been whipped by Tiger. They go out there thinking that they can't beat him, so they don't."

Truth Hurts.

August 26, 2008  09:24 AM ET

Well, it's more than they just don't: they most times can't.

I agree with him. Scared money can't win. They play scared when he's in the field. Look how well Garcia and Singh are suddenly doing not to mention Harrington.

Aint that the truth! But the Shark is right. Tiger has everyone so mentally beat they just cant play because they are too worried about where Tiger is(usually on top of the leaderboard)

That's why Tiger is the greatest. He doesn't even have to tee off before many players are already beaten...mentally.

Harrington and Singh have won many tourneys when Tiger was in the field. Sergio not so much.

So is that why Rocco lost?

August 26, 2008  01:23 PM ET

And Norman would have gotten his butt whooped if he was competing on tour against Tiger. No generation could have beaten Tiger like Norman quietly suggests.

August 26, 2008  01:24 PM ET

Norman is just lucky that he did not play in the Tiger era. Norman = choke in Australian.

I wonder who Norman got whipped by.... oh wait just about everyone on a Sunday at a major.

August 27, 2008  10:08 AM ET

I just snorted coffee outta my nose.... Norman talking about being mentally tough.... that's great

Here's an example of "playing scared":

"Certainly, this question can be posed to Sergio Garcia. The unofficial fifth major of the PGA Tour has been The Players Championship. Earlier, the major-less Garcia won The Players. In his victory speech, the first person he thanked was not his mother or father (who is also Garcia's coach), it was Tiger Woods. He thanked him for not playing that week."

cluck, cluck, sqwark!

And BenS, you're right.

Here's an example of NOT playing scared:

Back at the start of 2007 Golf Digest came up with a table that showed the scoring record of the world's leading golfers when paired with Woods. Harrington was the only man on the list who had an edge over Woods. In head-to-head encounters, the Irishman averaged 68.83 shots per round against Woods's 69.48.

Harrington jigged around a pool hall in delight when he first heard that he was the only man on the planet with an edge over Tiger. Vijay Singh was the next best on the list, over half a shot down on Tiger. No other golfer came within a shot of the world No 1.

Now let's tee-up at the next Major in April and start something.

I believe that Harrington has won major and Singh three majors with tger in the field. I don't believe Harrington has won anything else when Tiger has been in the field.
