Kotsay to be dealt to the Red Sox?

The Braves pulled Mark Kotsay from their starting lineup before Tuesday night's game in Atlanta, increasing the buzz around Turner Field that the outfielder is about to be traded. Kotsay, in his first season with the Braves, cleared waivers earlier this month. Both the Brewers and Phillies have reportedly shown interest in Kotsay, who is hitting .289 with six homers and 37 RBIs in 87 games. The Red Sox, who put outfielder J.D. Drew on the disabled list earlier Tuesday with a herniated disc in his back, as SI.com's Jon Heyman reported, also are considered to be interested. The word around Turner Field is that a trade could be announced by the end of the game.

I can answer that..screwed!!! again

It seems that the intent of Braves management is to cash out, with Bobby Cox as the on-field pawn. You could see it in the demeanors of the players who tried to win earlier. I'm sick of their absolute managing to lose.

August 27, 2008  07:35 AM ET

did he start for the braves?

August 27, 2008  07:47 AM ET

Mornin' BR549!! Maybe not.....we'll take Jacoby Ellsbury for Kotsay. LMAO

Most of the time in center. Great defense also, and very good at hitting in accordance with the baserunner situation - ie: a team player. Obviously, that's not what they want, but instead want the local playboys who smile when they strikeout with runners on.

Kotsay's slightly above journeyman.... solid, but unspectacular, outfield play, above average hitter, but not a huge run producer. He was a one year bridge in Atlanta to allow a couple of prospects another season to be ready. He's nothing more than a stop gap for any team.

August 27, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Whyd they get him in the first place....hes gonna be claimed by the phills and the soxs wont get him

August 27, 2008  09:03 AM ET

If he goes to the sox he will be a bench rider once Drew comes back... "Which will be once they wrap up a post season berth and there will be no pressure on him to perform"

August 27, 2008  09:24 AM ET

Wasn't there a thread about a week ago, talking about how the Braves wanted to keep Kotsay for 2009??

He's already cleared waivers.

Duh. Of course he is a stopgap. Whoever picks him up will only be doing so for 2008. Come on!

Yea scottc, you are right... that grandslam in game 6 of last years ALCS was certainly a no-pressure environment...
