Yankees: No plan for Joba return

Before the season started, the Yankees meticulously planned every step of Joba Chamberlain's development. But now that he is injured, the Yankees insist there is no plan beyond Thursday, when Chamberlain will throw his third bullpen session. Chamberlain, who has been out since Aug. 4 with a rotator cuff problem, said he felt fine after Monday's session and would not need to face hitters before returning to the team. Manager Joe Girardi said there would still be time in the minor league season for Chamberlain to pitch there first, if that is what the Yankees choose. Chamberlain may return as a reliever, although the Yankees still view him as a starter. Their standing in the pennant race has no impact on his timetable, according to General Manager Brian Cashman.

so let me fill everyone in on my FIRST trip to yankee stadium.....i was sitting in the front row of the second level. surrounded by a majority of yankees fans who were very nice and respectful. so coco crisp is up in the 2nd i think......long story short I CAUGHT A FOUL BALL! it was amazing. everyone around me thought it was pretty cool but this one kid kept throwing peanuts at me and my sis until a group of older yankee fans FREAKED out on the guy and made him feel like a idiot. it was hilarious. greatest baseball game ive ever been to

Hey, Lally. So glad you enjoyed the visit, though I hoped for a better outcome.

The Yankees are done (stick a fork in them)..

Can we now have threads about teams that are still contending?...

If we want to have a thread about MLB teams that are playig golf on September 29th, that's different..

Then a thread about the Yankees makes sense...

Lally,

Those nice and respectful fans were nowhere to be seen after the 7th inning..

Looked like a Dodger game last night as far as real fans who stayed to the end..

Sounds like you had a good time, though!..

August 27, 2008  09:12 AM ET

Rumor is injury still an issue and they are really concerned he will get hurt if he is not fully recovered. After their history of injuries.. I would be careful too.

Glad you enjoyed your first trip to the stadium.

This does not mean they have no plan at all. I saw the Joe Girardi show where he talks about this issue. They are taking it one step at a time is all. when/if Joba throws with no pain he will go onto the next step. The Yankees will continue to use the rotation they have been until Joba is pronounced ready and then they will make a decision as to what is best for Joba. If they are still in a race for anything they will take that into account, but none of that makes a difference now, that is what they mean. they are going to get Joba health and ready and then make a decision.

They booed A-Rod in the late innings coming to bat, that should have been up here instead of this.

Fold it up Joba The Spankees are done for 2008 ----- Mr September - A Rod has gone into his late season and post seasen swoon early ----

Nice at bat for A Rod in the 7th last night -- bases loaded - 1 out - trailing by 4 rookie on the mound -- 2 pitches and double play - game - set - season. And overall, a good 0 for 5 for a Rod. Man, he is really worth the big bucks the Spankees pay him ---- NOT

Seriously, could a guy with 4 -3 record on an non-contender get more press?

Stop covering this story, no one outside of the Bronx cares.

Please fill this space with more useful information like A-Rod/Jeter is banging these days.

Intelligence dictates - "SHUT HIM DOWN" !!!

August 27, 2008  05:50 PM ET

He's a rookie, he has no real record, he may be short term, so what's the bother? Rather hear about Yankee World Series victories in the last century.
