Rangers won't trade Gomez for Sundin

The Mats Sundin situation remains status quo, with big No. 13 at home in Sweden agonizing over the decision whether to retire or play an 18th NHL season. Contrary to falsehoods circulating on the Internet, the Rangers have never considered trading Scott Gomez to clear cap space for Sundin. Nor will they.

I was up all night worried about Mats.

This seals it! I am gonna subscribe to the Post.

I just don't know if it should be New York, Washington, Denver....

AGONIZING IS RIGHT. F*&^%%#$ YOU T&R

ok enough..training camp opens ....in a week or so. This drama has been dragging on since the last game of the season. Slowly it seems that teams have lost interest. Sure you have a few teams expressing interest, but if that were the case if Sundin was really wanted, I think one would see more movement. When the season starts either Sundin will be sitting in Sweden...or back to the leafs. One note I love the fact he wouldn't go to the Habs because of the intense rivilary with the leafs. That is BS. To prove your value one goes up the ladder not remain dormant. In Montreal the pressure would be there to perform. In Toronto...no worries. Season ends in April anyway

Blah blah blah Sundin blah blah blah not sure blah blah blah. We dont care anymore. Let us know when he makes up his mind. This the problem, these news sources keep with the stories of his undecision. This is why people are pissed about the whole situation.

That would be one of the worst trades in the history of sports...who comes up with this ****!?!?

August 27, 2008  08:43 AM ET

Gomez was their best scorer last year. Jagr, Straka, and others are longer no longer around to make Gomez and Drury the leaders of the franchise for the next half decade. To suggest that they would trade a team centerpiece to sign a disgruntled star past his prime is laughable

Rangers won't trade Gomez for Sundin

I wouldn't trade my mother-in-law for Sundin!

August 27, 2008  10:08 AM ET

Good. It would be a crazy move.

August 27, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Agreed the trade would be a disaster for NY. Glad they denied it. Sundin will go to the LEAFs

This Just In!!! Penguins won't trade Crosby or malkin for Sundin!

August 27, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Would you trade Lemieux for Sundin??

August 27, 2008  10:54 AM ET

How about trading Sundin for a pail of pucks and a pile of sweaty old towels.

August 27, 2008  11:01 AM ET

How in the frick could a"'sports reporter" even type this verbal diarrhea?

August 27, 2008  11:20 AM ET

all of these pointless, useless ramblings involving Sundin, make me want to reach for the bottle

August 27, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Where were these "rumors" circulated? New York Post and T&R: we need sources! You can't just go throwing out accusations like that to "the internet". Somebody had to put it there, and I never saw it. Until I do, I'm holding the New York Post and T&R accountable for these alleged rumors.

Would you trade Lemieux for Sundin??

Are you kidding...as my friend in Arizona says, "not NO, but **** NO!" Sundin is so ferakin indecisive, they'd never be able to name the new arena let alone decide on which players to sign.

A story on a bogus story???
Is there nothing else going on about hockey?

August 27, 2008  12:22 PM ET

At this point in their career: Gomez > Sundin. They are vastly different players, but Mats has two seasons left MAX, most likely 1. Gomez will play 5-6 if he stays healthy.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Bostongm's prayers have been answered. In a FM yesterday, he was saying how much he wanted a Sundin story, now he has 2!
