Double Play-Rod hearing lots of boos
Just call him Double Play-Rod. Last year, Alex Rodriguez carried the Yankees to a spot in the postseason. Tuesday night, he put them on his back and began the march toward a baseball-less October in the Bronx with one of the worst games of his career. A-Rod set the tone in a dismal 7-3 loss to the Red Sox, going 0-for-5 with an error, two strikeouts and two double plays, one of which killed the Yankees' best chance at a comeback. Terrible; there's absolutely no excuse," A-Rod said. "My team expects me to get big hits and make big plays. Tonight, I didn't do that."

so let me fill everyone in on my FIRST trip to yankee stadium.....i was sitting in the front row of the second level. surrounded by a majority of yankees fans who were very nice and respectful. so coco crisp is up in the 2nd i think......long story short I CAUGHT A FOUL BALL! it was amazing. everyone around me thought it was pretty cool but this one kid kept throwing peanuts at me and my sis until a group of older yankee fans FREAKED out on the guy and made him feel like a idiot. it was hilarious. greatest baseball game ive ever been to

He deserved it. He's been AWFUL with RISP this season, and last night was the capper.
This is no illusion...when it counts, i.e., when there are men in scoring position, every one of A-Rod's numbers plummets off the charts. His BA with RISP is a hundred points lower than with the bases empty. His slugging percentage with RISP is THREE hundred points lower than with the bases empty.
This ain't hating, or a lack of appreciation, or just me being an obnoxious Yankees fan. This is a cool-headed analysis of a hitter, by the numbers. When the going gets tough, A-Rod's numbers get going. Way, way south.

The penultimate moment from last night was when he came up in the 7th (I think) with one out and the bases loaded. We're losing 7-3, at home against the Red Sox. This is the moment for which the cleanup hitter was invented. And here comes a rookie pitcher.
So does he get a HR? An extra-base hit? A sacrifice fly? No. He taps a grounder to short for a tailor-made DP. Inning over, rally over...season over?
This month, he's hit into nine DPs and is hitting .238. The boos are completely appropriate.

Lally,
Since you wre at the game last night, where were all the Yankee fans after the 7th inning? The hot dog stand?
Looked like a Dodgers game after the 7th inning, all the high-priced bandwagon Yankee fans were gone..
Stick a fork in them, they're DONE!

Pimpy, I mis-remembered the meaning of the word. It was certainly the ultimate moment.
And Bob, let me clear up your usual hate-tainted confusion. The Stadium is filled near its 55,000 seat capacity for every game. Fans stay until the last out unless it's a huge blowout, one way or the other. If that's "bandwagon", then every fan is baseball is "bandwagon", too.
One thing you need to explain for me...if our team sucks so much, how can you call the fans "bandwagon" anyway? Seems more appropriate for all the brand new Red Sox hats I see than for a team that hasn't won the WS in eight years.
