Odd man out of Angels rotation

When Joe Saunders takes the Angel Stadium mound tonight, it will be more than a start. It will also be an audition, just like Jered Weaver's start was Monday, and Ervin Santana's will be Friday. Come late September, Manager Mike Scioscia and pitching coach Mike Butcher will have a difficult decision to make: Which one of the five starters, who have had seasons ranging from very good to superb, will go to the bullpen for the playoffs? John Lackey's status as staff ace makes him a lock to start, and Jon Garland's postseason success gives him a decided edge, so the final two spots probably will come down to the three younger pitchers, Santana, Saunders and Weaver.

That is a good problem to have if you ask me. If they can beat the Red Sox they might just find themselves in the Series with the Cubs. Scoring runs will be important though for this team in the playoffs.

Could always give Santana to the Sox. You know, just for fun...

They won't have to worry about the Red Sox this year, the Angels own them. I think it will be Weaver who goes to the bullpen, he has been the most inconsistant. Santana has the greatest chance to be dominant and Saunders has been solid all year.

They should worry about who is going to hit.

Halloraj--amen, brother. I still think they are a lock, regardless of their bats.
