Why Marlins didn't land Manny

Though some media questioned the Marlins for not making the Manny Ramirez deal (they refused to give up prospect Mike Stanton), Marlins advisor Jack McKeon -- who watched Stanton a lot this year -- defends it, asserting the 18-year-old outfielder can become a 25-plus home-run hitter in the big leagues.

Where is those couple of marlins fans to tell everyone how great their team is and that they're probably better off without Manny?

August 27, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Because he is a 22mil player and the Marlins is 20mil team.

August 27, 2008  09:25 AM ET

I think they didn't land.....because the Dodgers did.....

Manny wouldn't have helped the Marlins win anyway. Good non-move for the Fish.

Rumor has it, Kenny Lofton is available

I hope Mike Stanton works out for us when he finally does arrive in the bigs. The way I look at it, Stanton will be with the Fish for a few years before Jeffrey Loria trades him away to the Red Sox, Yankees, or Cubs because of salary issues. Loria is the cheapest owner in baseball.

I'd like to trade Jeffrey Loria to the Red Sox. Hey, the Sox already have 1 of our other previous owners (John Henry).

We'd send him to the minors like Pittsburgh just did to Craig Hansen...

I live in Greensboro, NC and have watched Stanton play here for the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers multiple times this year. This guys is legit! I was happy the Marlins didn't get rid of him, not because I couldn't see him play any more, but because he's got a great future ahead of him and will be playing with the Marlins in 2010, if not 2009.

No one cares. the Marlins aren't gonna be able to keep him after the season is over!!!

August 27, 2008  05:40 PM ET

I don't blame the Marlins in the least !!! Why mortgage the future for a two month pyscho !!! Seems they are doing pretty good with their own talent !!!

Manny is an Brass Hole. He only cares about the money. He also is a poor sport. When he was in Cleveland, him and his wife never tipped the waiters and waitresses at the restaurants he ate at. He NEVER was good enough to get the MVP in the World Series. The only reason they gave it to him was so the Red Sox wouldn't look like brasses after stealing him from Cleveland.
