Former NBA player Wayman Tisdale had part of his right leg amputated Monday because of bone cancer. Tisdale, 44, revealed on his Web site that the surgery was scheduled for Monday. His wife, Regina, told The Associated Press on Tuesday night the surgery had taken place as planned. "Everything went well," she said. Tisdale, a 6-foot-9 Tulsa native who played for Oklahoma before spending 12 seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, first learned he had cancerous cyst below his right knee after he broke his leg in a fall at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 8, 2007.

I always thought he was one of the best I've ever seen in college .. great player in the day! Good luck to you Wayman!

A little "where are they now" question .. whatever happened to a player by the name of Pearl Washington that played at Syracuse?? Just curious because he was sick on the court ..

Does anyone else see this as a blessing in disguise? If he never fell and broke his leg, he may not have ever known about the cancerous cyst until it was too late. Praise God!! I hope for a quick recovery for Tisdale. I also pray for all here that things are well with you too.

Wayman is a great individual. It is unfortunate that he had to sacrifice a portion of his leg, but that's a small price to pay to save the remainder of your life. Best wishes to Wayman in his recouperation.

I got to meet him after a jazz concert in which he perfromed in Las Vegas a few years back. A truly down to earth guy... and a great bass player!

Sometimes things happen for a reason we don't understand.

I recall several years ago, Tony Gonzalez of the KC Chiefs going out of bounds and plowing over a photographer. It knocked the poor guy out cold. When they took him to the hospital for precautionary reasons and did a CT scan, they found a brain tumor. They were able to treat the brain cancer which had not yet caused him to have symptoms. Had he not been hit it could have been months before he started having symptoms and it could have been much more difficult to treat.

I hope they were able to isolate the cancer in the affected limb that was removed and I hope he has a speedy recovery.
