Albert Pujols did go off on Brewers reliever Carlos Villanueva for his actions in the game Wednesday night and said it did wake his team up and spur them to rally to win. "I don't care what a player does but when you start pointing to the dugout and saying all those things he was saying, a guy like me that respects the game, I didn't like that and I let him know it," said Pujols. "He did us a favor. He woke up a sleeping giant. They beat us all year long. You don't have to do something stupid like that. I respect the game. I wanted him to know I didn't appreciate that."

An All-Star whining about a never-was? C'mon Al ... you're better than that.

Cheesy Texan.. no he's not.. Pujols is notorious for being a surly guy.. some would even call him an ****

August 28, 2008  08:18 AM ET

man nothing gets by these filters.. what I was trying to say is that some would say Pujols is an A-jols

"It definitely does have an effect," Brewers manager Ned Yost noted. "They've been struggling against us, then they get into a situation with the bases loaded. You make your pitch, get the out and walk off. You let them think, 'Boy, we just had another opportunity' instead of waking up a sleeping dog, so to speak."

From the St Louis Post post.

These guys have been in the Cards faces all year. The first year they've won the season series since 1999. I can't wait until their pitchers leave next year and they are back to their normal losing ways.

As much as I hate Glavine, this guy Pujols is the same jackass that that ripped Tommy boy as not being much 2 years ago in the playoffs. As much as I agreed, how exactly is that respecting the game? Albert, shut up, play the game and get over yourself. You're fast becoming the new Barry Bonds.

August 28, 2008  09:11 AM ET

Pujols = classless. Play the game like a HOFer and shut your fat mouth.

August 28, 2008  09:31 AM ET

I don't know what Villanueva was saying, but the umps didn't like it and Molina had to be restrained from going after him.

August 28, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Ned Yost should send this idiot down to AAA after his actions. They had the lead in this game when he had to act like an idiot and wake up the Cardinals who then went on to spank the Brewers. Act like youve been there before when you strik somoen out you dunce. Can you imagine how tired Nolan Ryan would have been if he acted like that everytime he struck somone out?

August 28, 2008  10:02 AM ET

The guy's actions were taunting and unprofessional, and Albert was 100% right to go after him like he did. The guy got a rookie out to get out of a bases loaded jam that he created, and he acted like he just struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back to back....... Albert was 100% right.

The guy got us going though, I'm glad he acted like an idiot.

Grossedout - Villanueva got into a bases loaded jam, then with two outs got Joe Mather to pop up to first. When he got the out, he was looking at the Cardinal dugout and pointing and pumping his fists like he's just won the World Series, and ALbert took exception to it and told him to get his butt back to his own dugout. The Cardinals clearly took it that Villanueva was showing them up. I obviously do not know what he was saying, but he was mouthing something at the dugout

Dumb question here for the Cards fans. How is Villanueva showing emotion after a big out any worse at all than Pujols kissing his hands and pointing to the sky after EVERY hit? Come on Albert, god doesnt give a damn that you just got a hit. What a freakin HYPOCRITE! Oh, and to the last post, Carlos was looking at the catcher catch the popup when he pumped his fist. Good win yesterday, wish the brewers could have continued to "disgrace the game" by untucking their shirts again.

Pujols isn't showing up the other team when he does that.

for guys ripping Villanueva because he yelled after popping a guy up with the bases loaded, is stupid. Guys play with emotion and it was a big out. Don't be hypocritical, just make sure Albert runs after hitting a home run, 'act like you been there before'... right Lou Dobbs 11 ? On a second note, how is slamming your helmet down after the pop up any more professional? And that wasn't the only time they did that through the course of the game, very hypocritical card fans!
