Artest pledges Rockets loyalty

Ron Artest is putting his best foot -- the one he doesn't put in his mouth on occasion -- forward. Artest enlisted himself as a loyal soldier to Yao Ming. Artest insists he'll happily defer to Yao and Tracy McGrady, that whatever they say goes. Artest pledges to do whatever Rockets coach Rick Adelman asks, and to do it willingly. About the only thing Artest isn't volunteering to do is serve as Rafer Alston's designated driver. Maybe all the Rockets have to do is ask. Start or come off the bench? It doesn't matter. First option, second option, third option, fourth option on offense? It doesn't matter. "You want to send them a little subliminal message that you're willing to sacrifice for the team," Artest said. "When they get here (for training camp), they'll see what I'm talking about."

Rockets fans are loyal. Glad to have you here Ron.

Welcome to the Good Guys.

Which Ron Ron is pledging his loyality? there are so many personalities in his head it must be like a Le Bron James commercial with all those characters. It is not a matter of if he goes off the deep end but when. Houston made a deal with the devil for this one.

"I proudly present my loyalty to the Houston Rockets. I will only make rap albums about the Rocket; and I won't attack any fan wearing Rocket gear, either physcially or emotionally."

Letter to the Houston front office.

Note to RonRon......

Subliminal messages are unrecognizable by the conscious mind. They are messages planted in other mediums and are desinged to pass below normal perception.....

Once you started revealing them to the press and made it public the message became an overt one, not a subliminal one.....

This might be the opposite. Rafer Alston might be the designated driver to Artest. Very bad combo. These two players are from the New York City playrgound and from the same type of neighborhood. Now they cannot be seperated. They have too many things in common. Either Rafer has to go and get traded or maybe the team might become a psycho team. Alston is not a steady player. Houston needs a more better and steadier PG. If they get one then Houston will be tough to beat.

Well, I hope the best for the Rockets and HOPE that Ron is on the up and up but I have my doubts. How many players of all sports pledge their loyalty to one team and stab them in the back months later if things aren't going as they want. Ron acts a bit like he thinks he is Michael Jordan and should be treated with super special care. He needs to just play the game and the Houston fans will embrace him. Words won't do it alone and there must be consistancy. Yao and I'm sure others have already discussed plans for the "what IF" happens such as Ron going awol on his team.

Has he promised not to go into the stands and beat up the paying customers?

"When they get here (for training camp), they'll see what I'm talking about."
Sounds as if Artest has something up his sleeve! He's toying with the press by telling them that he'll defer to the other Rocket players, and then he'll make his REAL presence known in the training camp!
I can see it now - he takes Rafer Allston aside and lets him know that he (Artest) had better get the ball or else. Then he does the same with each of the other guards.
He needs to set the tone and let the backcourt know that he's running the show.

There's nothing subliminal about your messages, Ron. The only think I am picking with my antenna is a load of bullchit we are accustomed to hear from you - like when you moved to the Pacers and then to the Kings.

i cant wait for this guy to implode on the rockets when he doesnt get his shots cause T-Mac takes like a billion shots a game and when they start loosing to the Jazz i am going to roll around LOL.

Pledges loyalty
Is Artest adopting a new country? It's not that serious Ron

Anyway Welcome to Texsas

August 28, 2008  11:05 AM ET

Ron can cripple players and beat up fans for all I care, so long as they belong to the opposing team. GO ROCKETS!

August 28, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Artest is in a position to become a winner. This often changes an individual's attitude. I'll have a "wait and see" on this one.

August 28, 2008  11:46 AM ET

I'm going to agree with Hllywd on this and wait.

I'm scratching my head over one of the comments made above, but I'll hold my peace.

August 28, 2008  11:53 AM ET

I think the true headline was - "Artest Demands Rockets' Loyalty or ??? "

August 28, 2008  12:02 PM ET

Artest is like a box of chocolates, you never know what youre gonna get - Forrest Gump

LOL. This is a true statement though. Ron on the first year is diff from the Ron on the 2nd year. Rockets should be cautious on what type of contract they offer him. He already said he expects a new contract from Houston.

I think the NBA should have a roll call and ask all players to pledge their allegiance to their teams, fans, coaches, certain casino owners and of course local county court rulings.. once a pledge is accepted you can not ask for a trade or fight with your own team mate... now that's too much to ask for Ron... lets wait and see...

August 28, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Just like he pledged loyalty to Indiana and Sacramento. This is just one loyal guy!

I think they should give Luther Head some more burn and see what they got in him first... he was shooting the lights out for a little bit last year... and if Scola plays like he did in the Olympics, they'll be real tough.
