Notre Dame guard to transfer

Little-used guard Ty Proffitt has withdrawn from Notre Dame and plans to transfer to another school. The 6-4 sophomore from London, Ky., played just 22 minutes in eight games last season, averaging 1.0 points and 0.4 rebounds. Proffitt was not expected to see much playing time in the coming season behind Kyle McAlarney, Tory Jackson and Jonathan Peoples. Notre Dame also adds transfer guard Ben Hansbrough in 2009-10. Coach Mike Brey said he supports Proffitt's decision.

It's always an encouraging sign when the coach basically tells you yes you do suck and won't play so hurry up and leave so I can go add another recruit!

Although I understand Ty's decision as it relates to PT, he's a quality guy who'll be missed in the Notre Dame & St. Edward's Hall community. Moreover, with Ty gone, the South Bend Dominoes Pizza will soon be forced to close due to a sudden lack of business.

We've got some good recruits interested in us for 2009, so this was a good move. Good luck to him in his future bball career, but right now, I'm happy that we have another schollie open. We were running short. We had used 4, so that means that only 2 were left I believe. We are in contention for more than 2 recruits who are better than Proffitt. This will be a good move for both parties involved.
