Can Spartans lure USC recruit?
Many Michigan State fans have wondered about the status of the state's top football prospect from the class of 2008, Nick Perry of Detroit Martin Luther King High School. Perry finished his senior year with a state record 36 sacks and helped lead King to the state Championship. The 6-4, 245-pound pass rush specialist signed with USC, but has yet to pass the NCAA Clearinghouse and has not been officially admitted to the university. Perry, who was rated the #1 player in Michigan by SpartanMag.com and the #2 defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com selected the Trojans over a final group of Michigan State, Michigan and Miami. If Perry does not get through the NCAA Clearinghouse, he would likely be released from his scholarship obligation by USC and could take a variety of paths. Perry could attend a Junior College, a Prep School or enroll at another 4-year school as a non-qualified athlete.

MSU is on their way back to being a premier team. Unfortunately, they are a year ahead in their rebuilding than Michigan, so it could be an interested next couple of years. I love it though. The big ten is strongest when MSU is capable of beating any team on any given week, like they were under Saban. Now lets get Purdue, Penn State, and Iowa back to their old form.

It's possible but it looks like this kid has to go to a JUCO or a prep school to get his grades up first.

Where does this article state any facts, comments or even rumors that Perry has any interest in tranferring to MSU? That is a pretty big stretch of inference from what the article actually says. Keep dreaming Farties.

They are just saying that if he isnt that good at academics, MSU would be a better home for him than USC. I saw video of this guy and he kills kids, i want him at UM

MSU or OSU would be a good fit if he doesn't have the grades. AATC I'd love to see him in maize and blue too but if he can't swing USC what chance does he have at UofM?

USC knew that they were in trouble when he took his SAT's using crayons and he brought his toys with on his official visit and would only eat at Chuck E. Cheeses.

Nick Perry isn't struggling to get through the NCAA clearinghouse because "he is a dumb kid". The reason its taken longer than most is because the school he went to his junior year of high school was shut down by the state so he had to change schools and understandably fell behind. He is actually a very good student and doesn't have any character problems. He might end up going to Michigan or Michigan State is simply because of their location.

Yes, please do not blame Nick for this. Nick did the best he could, but Detroit Public Schools struggle at times with trying to keep kids in school rather than drop out (as do most inner city schools). As a result, standards were lowered at his previous school most likely, and it was shut down. If you really want to find the root of the problem, it all comes back to NCLB as made by President GW Bush. It says "No Child Left Behind" but sets such high standards that most children are left behind. Plus the war cost the US a few dollars that could have been spent on education. *No disrespect to our miltary, they do a phenomonal job doing what our country asks* Sorry for getting on a tangent here, but this story to me is not about Nick Perry specifically, this could happen to any kid in any inner city. I am from the detroit area and here is what I see. Unless Birmingham Brother Rice, Country Day, or St. Mary's plucks a kid from detroit because he has "high academic abilities" that allow him to win athletic championships, it is hard for these kids. I have the utmost respect for the teachers in the DPS, but unfortuantely education is not as important to most of these kids. The exceptions are Cass Tech and Renaissance, which appear to be Detroit magnet schools.

OJ's slasher, what a bunch of crap! No child left behind has NOTHING to do with this. Blame his parents before George Bush, they are the one's that decided to raise him in a craphole!
"As a result, standards were lowered at his previous school most likely, and it was shut down." Most likely, in other words you have no idea why it shut down, what a fool.

Funny how MSU would take a player that isn't smart enough to get into SC. What does that say about the Big 10?

And all of you geniuses posting here, making those dumb jock references went to AND graduated from a University? I understand what OJS is saying, there's no need to trash him/her. I went to both high-achieving schools and schools that were average/mediocre here in Sac. And yes, I graduated from the Cal-State University here, so I have an insight on this article. It sounds like the NCAA wants to make sure that the high school classes Perry took are up to their standards. It's not about whether he is smart or not. There are a lot of good-to-brilliant students who happen to go to inner city schools. People need to get off of that trip that any and every student from a school in the hood is stupid. If USC thinks he'll making a fine Trojan, then they'll stand by him and let the process work itself out.
