El Mundo Deportivo reports that Robinho's move to Chelsea from Real Madrid could yet be back on the agenda after it hit the rocks. Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is apparently willing to accept $25M plus Didier Drogba for the winger.

Calderon might be tempted. We need a long-term signing at the forward position. And besides, does Chelsea really want Anelka has their #1 striker? He's playing well right now, but he's notorious for falling out of favor

I'm not sure about this. Without Drogba, the only out-and-out strikers left at Chelsea are Anelka, who is very easily unsettled and unproven players like Di Santo, Sinclair and the unproven Soloman Kalou. Robinho would add a lot of flair to the attacking third, but he is hardly the target man that Drogba is. He's a playmaker and playmakers are only as productive as the center forwards that they utilize. Anelka has great talent, but if he's the only option up front, then Chelsea better make sure the young players are ready to go before they give up a pure target man like Drogba.

I wouldn't give up Drogba. I know there are some Drogba haters here but the guy is an out and out striker. Pantherfan0728 is dead on in the assessment of Drogba and if Chelsea gives him up, they are going to have a hard time replacing him.

Anelka? Not very good.

August 29, 2008  09:39 AM ET

I wouldn't give up Drogba either, but Chelsea seems dead set on wanting Robinho. Drogba ia a beast, and I'm not convinced Robinho--despite all his obvious talent--will do well in EPL. At first he may show flashes, but I don't see them lasting.

I am giving this rumour the thumbs down. We already have four or five guys just as good, if not better than, Drogba at Real Madrid. With Gonzalo Higuain developing a scoring touch and Javier Saviola chomping at the bit to get minutes, bringing in another big gun forward like Drogba, as good as he is, doesn't make any sense.

I personally think we should let Robinho go for 40 million. Then take that nice chunk of change and sign overlapping midfielder Joaquin for 30 million from Valencia. Then we should pocket that 10 and get ready for the season.

Bringing in anyone at this stage isn't going to yield immediate dividends anyway. Robben, Gago, Higuain, Drenthe, Metzelder have all needed a year to acclamate themselves to Liga play and Schuster methods.

Just my opinions, though.

I agree and can't see this happening either, i'm still hopeful that Robinho gets to leave, though i have no preference in the EPL, as a fan of futbol i'm drooling to see Robinho play with Deco under Scolari. But it seems less and less likely, I just don't see how you can keep a player who has declared publicly that he wants to leave, but at least we won't have to keep hearing all these same recycled stories and rumors since the transfer window is almost closed.

Barca -

The transfer window still has two days left. According to Soccernet, the deal just needs to be signed. It has been agreed in principle. I do find it strange, however, that an official statement hasn't been released more than 24 hours after the story broke. But until I hear anything to the contrary, I will assume that Robinho is going to Chelsea and that I will be purchasing a long sleeved Robinho away jersey.

Sick.

Bearing in mind that the Spanish "press" (Marca and As) is the source of my speculation; Robinho's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, committed a serious party-foul when he had a boat-load of media waiting out front of the restaurant that he and Chelsea's Peter Kenyon had dinner at last night. Robinho himself says that this isn't over yet and as of now Peter Kenyon is still in Madrid, waiting for this deal to get done.

Does any of this mean Drogba, who has been linked with Real before, is coming to the Bernabeu? Hardly. What we do know is that Robinho wants out. He has burned his bridge at Real. He wants to play for Scolari.

Calderon should let him go. We don't do things the ManU way - threatening to let the player rot on the bench - if the player wants to go, let him go.

This is also part of the bed Real front office people have made for themselves by running their mouths off in the Spanish "press." Real front office personnel have fostered a resentment from other big, and even not-so-big, clubs.

The right thing is to let Robinho go, take the money, and get on with the season - which just so happens to start at Riazor stadium; a place Real has not won at since 1991.

Pretty much concur with what's already been said. I don't see any validity in this story - in regards to Drogba being part of the deal for two reasons.

A.) As has already been stated that would leave Anelka as Chelsea's only "true" striker and if I were a Chelsea fan I would have to swallow hard at such a thought and....

B.) I can understand some other team including a player in a deal so as to reduce the transfer price, but certainly not in Chelsea's case. Chelsea will never be short of funds as long as Abramovich is in charge. Including Drogba in the deal, is not only unnecessary, but it would create a void upfront in the process. As we all know Robinho's a winger not a striker. And why would Abramovich splash so much money on Robinho only to have to spend again to replace Drogba's spot on the club? Just doesn't make sense.

August 29, 2008  03:36 PM ET

I've read different stories where a deal had been struck for Robinho but I haven't read anything with Drogba being invloved in the deal, Chelsea has a talented team but with all those quality midfielders a big forward like Drogba is invaluable. Panther is right he is more of a creative forward with flair, He'd be a great pairing with Drogba.

Keep Drogba at Chelsea and certainly keep Robinho at Madrid.

Things jus MUST be THAT way.

this rumour is very hard to believe. yes, robinho is a good player but there is NOO way chelsea will give away their #1 striker and $25M to get him. chelsea would be giving up between between $35 and $45M, depending on how you rate drogba

can they find a different pic of robinho?? take mine
