Why do Americans like Faldo?

In the eccentric world of British sport the fact that the Ryder Cup is looming large on the horizon means only one thing - imminently we are going to have to sit through that diplomatic dunce, Nick Faldo, dropping verbal clangers and making his usual pig's ear of attempting graciousness amid the ceremonial duties of being Europe's captain. Of course, I am expressing a peculiarly British view of Faldo (though as it happens, I am a Scot). In the USA, on the contrary, they think he is amazing, just awesome. This intriguing Faldo case is yet another example of those who feel liberated and even come into their own when released from the imprisoning confines of their own culture.

WHAT THE ??????? I thought this was a golf page, and as for Faldo, who says hes ppopular?i dont know one golfer at my club who will even listen when this arrogant over inflated egomaniac starts talking.

Most of what I know about Faldo is from his announcing. From that standpoint he's OK, not great, but OK. I don't want to hang out with him so why should I care if he's a jerk.

There's nothing wrong with Faldo. The British columnists don't like anybody.

Sure, he may be egocentric (and show it) but he is a much better announcer than four fifths of the clowns out there.

The British columnists didn't like Faldo when he was PLAYING. Should we expect these dunderheads to appreciate him now?

No. So, take this kind of jealous, sour-grapes with a grain of salt.

Faldo is one of the great ones. Get over it.
