Will Busch-Edwards feud heat up?

Saturday night's race will be the first Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards meet on the track since their feuding at the conclusion of last weekend's Cup race at Bristol, Tenn. There doesn't appear to be any love lost between the drivers and both have memories of past incidents, including run-ins in the Nationwide Series. Given the two outgoing personalities involved, every lap at California should be an adventure.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,every lap at California should be an adventure.?
Dear T and R, We have debated this FEUD?, into the ground, Please, no Pretty Please, give us a story with some meat!
i know Nascar is your Step Child compared to the others, but a little effort on your part would help!

Good Morning All!

Morning Float...ha I almost spit my coffee all over my keyboard when I saw "every lap at California should be an adventure". I guess the writer of this article has never watched a race at Fontana...the only thing that makes it tolerable is a case of beer

August 29, 2008  08:13 AM ET

You would THINK that someone from CHARLOTTE would KNOW something about NASCAR and put a bit of EFFORT into their STORY!
See how clear that was? LOL

August 29, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Noooo it would be nice if every lap in Fontana would be interesting but it probably won't be the right track for Kyle to get back at Carl.

August 29, 2008  09:15 AM ET

Nascar will never let a rivalry happen. Somebody mighrt get hurt. Oh and to all you Big Three haters I am sorry I make a good wage and have health care for my family Wish you and yours the same things your jealosy wishes for us.

August 29, 2008  09:19 AM ET

All I am hoping for is that PeeWee Busch will not be able to control his hot head and he does something really stupid. And gets in LOTS of trouble as he should have last week!!!!!

joe- I am not a Big 3 hater but do you really think there shouldn't be a limit on how much a job like sweeping floors should make. I know it is more than my husband makes at being a General Manager at the GM dealership he works at that will have to close down soon!!!

August 29, 2008  09:29 AM ET

We no longer have have cleaners or many other unskilled. Robots do most of the handling. Our plant has gone from 5000 people in 1965 to 900 today. All the jobs you people speak of are going away and the new hires make half of what the old production workers make. I myself am a networker for IT. I had to go to college for 4 years. Our cost of living is high in mi. I do not hate others for making more than me for turning left on a track. I admire them for their skills. I work hard for the money I make. Don't be jealous.

August 29, 2008  09:33 AM ET

BOTH drivers are on probation....that means they will not go anywhere near each other to jeopardize their Chase starting positions or chances at the Cup....this will be a non-issue at California...all this build up is setting everyone up for a huge let down and then all the haters will say how much the race sucked.

August 29, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Perfect analogy AF that is exactly what I see happening

August 29, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Nascar should have just fined the guys, and let them go at it,,,,,,Good move again nascar!

August 29, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Joe- I am not jealous but I live near a GM Plant and I know how much some employees made for sticking a ballbearing into something. I am not saying that your job is overpaid but come on $25 an hour to do something a monkey could do. This is why American cars are so over priced and The Big Three are in financial trouble!!!

August 29, 2008  10:17 AM ET

I can see Klye getting into trouble if he gets close to Carl. He is a hot head and I don't think he will be able to control himself. AND that is one reason I will not miss the next race. This is great for NASCAR !!!!!!!

August 29, 2008  10:26 AM ET

No contact or rubbin from either of the two will make a dull race duller. They are more concerned with who came out to see the race than who is driving. I don't give 2 S%#$ if Brad Pitt is out with his "son", or if Lohan and her butch little friend were seen making out in a porta-john, that isn't racing!!! You gotta know the Cali state if mind though...I was born there...it is see and be seen. If it is popular they will flock to it regardless.

On Monday's Sirius Speedway, I spoke at some length about the public relations goldmine Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards have deposited on the doorstep of Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Their post-race shenanigans at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night have been replayed hundreds of times on every major sports outlet in the nation, giving NASCAR the kind of personal rivalry it cannot buy, at any price.

I talked about how, if I ran Auto Club Speedway, there would be a major PR effort in the next 72 hours to highlight the Edwards/Busch rivalry, and sell tickets with it. Auto Club Speedway President Gillian Zucker was asked about precisely that on The Morning Drive with Mike Bagley and David Poole this morning, and her response was that Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards ???sell themselves.???

Two hours later, I received a press release in my e-mail inbox, hyping the Kyle vs. Carl feud. The title of the release -- in 16-point, bold-print capital letters, read, ???WILL RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY BE THE SITE OF KYLE BUSCH???S RIVALRY REVENGE????

While some people wait for the event to sell itself, it's nice to see others put on their promoter???s hats and get busy.

I???m not here to criticize anyone. The marketing and promotional staffs at Auto Club Speedway have more college degrees than I do, and I'm not about to try and tell them how to do their jobs. However, it occurs to me that there are reasons for all the empty seats when NASCAR comes to Fontana; reasons that have nothing to do with traffic, summer heat waves or Wolfgang Puck. There are also reasons why Richmond packs `em in for its twice-annual NASCAR weekends.

One of those reasons lies in the difference between being a promoter, and merely a track operator.
P of H This story validates your theory.

August 29, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Any way you look at it, it still should be good suspense/racing....

August 29, 2008  10:45 AM ET

I didn't think of it as a theory K, I know how Calis think. I went to the 2006 Auto Show in LA with a friend and it is amazing just to watch people hang out just because it is SOMETHING the stars might do. There weere folks just standing against walls not even looking at the cars...they just were there BECAUSE. Same with the Fontana race....HOT as hell in Fontana, been there a ton of times for the NHRA Winternationals and Finals, terrible place for a race track. Stars aren't going to these things because they are fans...it is self promotion because they know the cameras are on. Auto Club Speedway and NASCAR are basically catering to the vanity of a few by insisting on having this SLUG of a race. Watch during the broadcast how many times we "cut away" to see Sarah Jessica Parker cramming a nacho down her cake hole, or Tom Cruise looking for his next victim.....it cheapens the race to the point of laughability.

ohio 88 the labor cost per vehicle made is $1500 the rest of the markup is due to government standards for safety and fuel economy. As you well know the government has to protect us from ourselves

Mr. joefordandproud; I have been on both sides of the fence, union member, shop steward and a stint in management before retirement. I have one question for you, why has union membership dropped from 21 million in 1979 to a figure of 15 million in 2003? In 1954 over 28% of workers were unionized and in 2003 the figure was 11%. Where would you lay the blame? Is it mismanagement or is it greed on the unions part? Now, if you blame politicians, I would have to ask you where all the PAC money I gave to my union went. It was supposed to elect union friendly people.
