Thin Cowboys in market for WR?

Suddenly, the Cowboys are down to a pair of healthy receivers. Terrell Owens and Patrick Crayton. That's it. Just for the record, one member of the front office said Joe Horn isn't among the top 20 guys on the Cowboys' free agent receiver wish list. Another member of the front office said there weren't any veterans worth adding to the roster. Jerry Jones said he'd rather use players that Tony Romo has some familiarity throwing passes to at this late date. Besides, how much is a young receiver who has just been cut going to help this team. He did his due diligence when it came to Anquan Boldin, Roy Williams and Chad Johnson. He inquired about the asking price for those players and decided it wasn't worth the price.

You don't need two superstars at WR, especially if you have to pay a ransom to get one. The Cowboys would be better suited to start the season with what they've got, then work from there. Other players will become available as the season progresses. How bad can their passing game be with Witten and Owens anyway?

August 29, 2008  08:17 AM ET

they've got Danny Amendola ... another Wes Welker in the making ... just be patient and tell him not to LEAP ....

There will be decent WRs released this week. They will hit the waiver wire hard. The writer is correct, there is no depth at the position, but they may not need any.
There were some good choices in the third and fourth rounds though this year.

THIS IS GETTING SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 29, 2008  08:32 AM ET

Witten is their no. 2 receiver, they will be fine.

August 29, 2008  08:38 AM ET

Cowboys will be just fine. We've already got two good prospects on the team trying to make a spot. We'll see how Jerry handles this one, but they'll be just fine. Went all season last year with just Owens and Crayton and went 13-3.

August 29, 2008  08:41 AM ET

It is the same as last year really. Jones will most likely have 50 catches out of the backfield this year. If I am a DC, I game plan for him more as a receiver anyways.
It is all about injuries anyways. If you have them, you are in trouble, if not, you are OK.

Why is it that the cowboys are always looked at these days for their WR????? shakehead. Don`t hey have other pressing issues?

August 29, 2008  08:42 AM ET

What about Alvin Harper?

August 29, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Maybe they should bring back Keyshawn. That would make good tv.

August 29, 2008  08:48 AM ET

The management is going to Jamaica and try to sign the Lightning Bolt.

Second that motion.

Joe Horn could be a solid one down fill in and would probally play cheap now... there are allot of WR 's out there that will be available. I am sure Johnson or Rice is for the right price.. with so many over the hill players.. give em a chance.

August 29, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Hey.. sign Bolt.. probally has no hands but he would look great running and celebrating before catching the ball (Olympics)

The Cowboys do not need Pro Bowl talent at every position. Put Patrick Crayton opposite T.O. and let's start this thing up.
