Irish offense looking deep

In the present, Notre Dame happens to be in the market for an explosive, game-breaking receiver, one of the many commodities absent from its arsenal in 2007. And Golden Tate, who has arrived mentally, and Michael Floyd, who has arrived literally, both happen to be available. It's a matter of whether they're capable. Irish coach Charlie Weis has said he wants to "pound it" with the run game. It becomes exponentially easier to "pound it," however, if you can "toss it" to someone who eats up mass quantities of yards in a single bite.

A good balance of offense usually results in many wins.

Yeah, you got to mix the deep pass in. Hope it actually happens.

Looking forward to Irish-Wolverines. Well, as long as we get by Utah first.

August 30, 2008  11:08 AM ET

Agreed J. Hova. I look forward to returning the ND-Michigan rivalry to the prominence it once had.

August 30, 2008  12:36 PM ET

I think it's going to be a good game this year, Gariboy. It's going to be competitive and although I am going to be rooting hard for the Wolverines it looks like ND should win that game.

In my opinion, of course.

August 30, 2008  04:47 PM ET

The ND-Michigan game will be awesome. ND has almost all of their recruits coming to that game including some basketball players.

Michigan isn't looking great right now.

August 30, 2008  06:55 PM ET

Arses are getting tight in Ann Arbor.

August 30, 2008  09:40 PM ET

I agree ND got to have a balance attack to get anywhere but there is one thing going for them that is a weaker schedule which should give them a chance to improve.plus with a offensive line returning most of its starters that will help to.

August 30, 2008  09:42 PM ET

yes gents the irish and michigan game should be very interesting with all the inexperience players playing

August 31, 2008  12:41 AM ET

Notre Dame sucks and they will continue to suck. Their O line sucks and their DBs suck. They will not do well this year. Write stupid stories about them AFTER they win a bowl game...hasn't happened this decade

Whoa, such eloquence is not to be deserved. Are you an alien?

August 31, 2008  02:48 AM ET

UM (0-1 week 1) second year in a row, this time against a Utah team!..ehood Or do you prefer to be called Mary? or Ms PMS?
ND defence isn't playing catch the runner this year. But attack and blow-up the other team. UM couldn't get but 203yds rushing against Utah, at ND 150 may be it! Also more arm wrap-up tackles and fewer shoulder tackles this year...you watch. Those old ND techniques of the past are gone.

Game should go ND 27 um-17

August 31, 2008  02:48 AM ET

Our DB's suck?? from what i remember our pass defense was actually pretty decent last year... with tenuta expected to put more pressure on the qb it will lead to more turnovers... lets wait to see how the season goes before u start talking smack about nd's pass defense "ehood"

August 31, 2008  09:32 AM ET

I hear ya B Rob, the dbs are solid...the o-line has more experience and are HUGE...all they need do is stay agressive and the Irish will be competitive this year...

August 31, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Evan - you' re a smart man are you!

August 31, 2008  11:34 AM ET

24-20 Irish win against Wolverines

Clausen will be a lot better this season

August 31, 2008  12:57 PM ET

I saw a couple of anaylyst's say that ND looked good in camp. I'm trusting their judgement in hopes for a great season.

August 31, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Even though I don't have anything against UM, ND has beaten them more often than not so far this decade, even when UM has had the better team. And after another season opening loss it amazes me that any UM fan would start trying the same old bash ND routine when they should be a little more worried about how their team is going to do this year.

August 31, 2008  01:57 PM ET

The pass rush will be the difference in multiple games for the Irish. Threet looked good when he had time yesterday, but when he got pressure, he fell apart. Tenuta should exploit that.

Cal Poly beat SDST yesterday, so that's good news for ND. Poly uses a 3-4 like ND, and SDST had trouble blocking it. Even better news.

August 31, 2008  03:37 PM ET

This will be the beginning of our record getting better and better over the next few years culminating with a National Title shot in Woods' sophmore year and Clausens' Senior year?

August 31, 2008  06:18 PM ET

yes you guys keep knocking the irish, but with tenuta in charge of defense and with a year under their belts the offense will be better.plus a weaker schedule 7or8 wins is very possible.
