Simms eyes Cowboys, Packers

Chris Simms doesn't just believe he has played his last game in a Bucs uniform -- he is counting on it. The catastrophic injuries to quarterbacks around the league never materialized. Tampa Bay is not going to pay a $2-million premium for a left-handed insurance policy. By 6 p.m. today, when teams trim rosters from 75 to 53 players, Simms hopes to be released and fielding calls from the Cowboys or Packers.

I'm a big Chris Simms fan but it seems like his starting days are behind him.

not sure why team's aren't lined up fighting to sign this guy. could make a decent spot starter, and even earn the starter's job with a team. seriously, simms is an improvement over anything going in KC and Chicago at QB.

How many QB's do the Packers need?

August 30, 2008  09:43 AM ET

go back home to Texas and win a SUPER BOWL on the bench behind ROMO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 30, 2008  09:52 AM ET

He would be an upgrade for a number of teams in the league ( Bears, KC, 49'ers, Titans,)

Just give us one with a little experience. Right now we have one that's never started a regular season game in the NFL, and two that have never taken a snap in a regular season game in the NFL.

LuckeyStoke ..Sounds like you do not think much of the Cowboys back up QB now.

August 30, 2008  10:27 AM ET

Simms, if let go, could jst as easily end up in any number of places. Including New England. Lot of interest if he is out there. No reason for him to sit behind Romo. If he was going to do that he could sit behind Brady or any of a number of other guys....He could be looking for a place where he has a chance to start...

LuckyStoke is not the only one. Of course, faith in a backup QB is rare, esp. given the overall talent of current NFL QB's.

Welcome back Hank.

50yearfan,

Agree. There will be interest in Simms from many teams.

I'd love to see this kid get one more legitamate shot somewhere else, maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

Cowboys have Tony Romosexual, why bother with Simms.

I have a lot of faith in Brad Johnson......... its just a little thing called age that is catching up with him............... Simms would be the 3rd QB until atleast week 6 !!!!!!!!!!!

August 30, 2008  11:32 AM ET

PLUS SIMMS IS A TEXAN........... ONCE A TEXAN ALWAYS A TEXAN........ JUST LOOK AT ZACH THOMAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 30, 2008  11:45 AM ET

The Cowboys need someone who throws interceptions in pressure situations as much as the Longhorns did when he did it there.

Regardless of his skills, the guy's got guts. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.
