Joba could pitch relief Monday

Joba Chamberlain has done his part in the rehab of his right shoulder. The next call belongs to the Yankees. The right-hander threw 35 pitches during a mound session yesterday - with batters standing in the box - and afterward pronounced himself fit for removal from the disabled list. Chamberlain's return would come as a reliever, at least for now, but Girardi refused to divulge specifics on how the 23-year-old would be used or if any limitations would be imposed on him. One theory circulating is the Yankees gradually will try to increase Chamberlain's pitch count in the bullpen, and if the team has a realistic shot at the wild card in two weeks, would look to have Chamberlain start two or three games down the stretch. But if the Yankees are finished in mid-September, they could shut down Chamberlain completely. Because rosters can expand tomorrow, it's likely Chamberlain would be activated then, provided he incurs no setbacks today.

I ask the question once again - why would the Yankees risk this guys' future by not shuting him down for this LOST season ??? Oh that's right they are the Yankees with their incredible history of "screwing up" their pitchers !!!

this is unbelievable, joba should not pitch in the bullpen anymore, especially not this year when they are most likely not making the playoffs unless they become the 2007 rockies, but realisticly bruney edwar veras and marte will do the job in that bullpen
