The Bengals let go of three long-time starters Saturday in right tackle Willie Anderson, tailback Rudi Johnson and cornerback Deltha O'Neal who had played in a combined six Pro Bowls while with the team. The Bengals are set to go with Chris Perry as their starting tailback, with Kenny Watson and DeDe Dorsey backing him up.

Willie Anderson was the only surprise and probably the only mistake. O'neal was over-paid to return. Rudi lost the chip on his shoulder and Jim Anderson's backing. They won't be out of work for long, only Willie will get a decent contract though.

Well, in my opinion pw (and yes, hindsight is 20/20), the only "mistake" involving Willie is that he was signed instead of Steinbach.

Though I agree with the other cuts. Though I feel this is the beginning of a shortage at corner.

Why not start kenny watson he did a pretty good job filling in for Rudi last year

have to agree center is looking thin and will be a problem all season if they don't make a wavier move. hindsight being 20/20 choice was steinbach or jones, and they wanted to keep jones as willie's replacement. if they could have worked out a way to keep steinbach and jones, it would have been the best scenario. The timing of the deals didn't work out for that move though.

Also, watson will be the starter when perry gets hurt...

Check the local jails and prisons....you'll find someone worthy of your team.

Now that I check my memory bank, you are right pw: it was Jones or Steinbach. I remember Jones' signing being the "uh oh" moment for Eric's Aunt and Uncle. Though I'm sure they weren't upset with the Cleveland payday.

I'm looking forward to Watson starting eventually as well. :)

Though, the cut of Rudi has affected our overall Johnson count.

Funny original material there cheesehead. How's Johnny Jolly & Nick Barnett doing?

Rudi had that one good year where he looked amazing, what happened to that guy?

At least one Wolverine got good news today.

Does Chris Perry have a long enough rap sheet...uhhh...I mean resume to be a dependable Bengal?

August 31, 2008  09:48 PM ET

They could always sign Shaun Alexander. This team is desperate.

is Perry durable enough to last 16 games as the starter? isn't that the reason he hasn't played more in the past?

Though, the cut of Rudi has affected our overall Johnson count.

And the drop of Willie kinda killed my "Three Johnsons and a big Willie" shirt.
