Cards pick Warner over Leinart

Eight months passed. A few thousand of passes were thrown. Nearly as many questions were asked. And, still, picking the Cardinals starting quarterback came down to this: Coach Ken Whisenhunt staying up most of Friday night and into Saturday morning to evaluate the performance of Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner. In the end, the central question was this: Who gives the Cardinals the best chance to win the season opener in San Francisco next Sunday? Whisenhunt picked Warner, who had spent every day of those eight months as Leinart's backup. Leinart wasn't happy, which Whisenhunt viewed as a positive thing. Whisenhunt didn't detail the reasons for picking Warner. It was more of a culmination of the past eight months than just a specific thing or two, he said. Leinart didn't help himself by throwing three interceptions in Oakland a week ago, but he certainly didn't hurt himself by playing well in Friday's loss to Denver.

perhaps Leinart can get warner's old job bagging groceries until the cards need him..

You know all about USC overrated overranked program.
Look at matt and the running back reggie bush

I feel sorry for Matt but even sorrier for the Cards. They had to waste a high pick for this guy. Sad.

Good choice, Matt Leinart = B U S T

August 31, 2008  10:08 AM ET

i think he deserves it.it was for matt to lose it and he did.you can't teach a frogg how to climb walls.

How many times did Whisenhunt say Leinart was his QB over Warner before coming out to say Warner is The Man. Good Lord.

We had 4 tree frogs on our window screens last night. Just saying. ;]

I am glad that Ken has made up his mind..At least for this week anyway...

August 31, 2008  10:58 AM ET

The big question is, what he does if the Cards happen to lose the season opener. He's gotta stick to his guns if things start going sour. He can't flip flop every couple weeks.

August 31, 2008  11:27 AM ET

No brainer

August 31, 2008  11:45 AM ET

Please start Leinert as soon and often as possible. Only then will he be exposed for the fraud he is. it's easy to look good at usc when at every position you out class all but one or two opponents a year.

Leinart should be happy he got a great contract, made some millions on his skills. Norm Chow at TN knew what time it was at the draft and took VY over someone he coached personally at usc.

Kurt Warner to the rescue.

August 31, 2008  12:29 PM ET

I think this is the right choice for 2008.........

August 31, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Spam x3.....No brain-er. Was there any REAL doubt how this would turn out.

August 31, 2008  01:29 PM ET

Simms is available ...

Let's not start talking about how Leinart is a bust and then how intelligent a draft choice Vince Young was. Addai should have been rookie of the year that season and Young cannot hit the broad side of a barn, even with his arm strength. And, by the way, it entertains me to see the overhyped USC picks show what they can do against equal talent week in and week out.

August 31, 2008  02:51 PM ET

whoa, whoa, whoa. b real, get real. vince young was r.o.y. cuz he wins games. give the guy some recievers instead of no talent punkos and half-hurt re-treads and maybe his % goes up. either way, his winning % is highest of all the impact rookies of that year.

August 31, 2008  03:29 PM ET

Warner's won in the big situations, hard to argue with that. But since he left the Rams, just not the same. The Cards should trade Leinart now, try and get a little something for him.

August 31, 2008  04:06 PM ET

Good choice.

its party time for matt.
