Where will Pedro end up?

One of the intriguing issues of the offseason will be Pedro Martinez's future. He hasn't pitched well lately, but as he told this reporter a few weeks ago, he'll base his decision on how his arm feels, though results are important to him as well. While the results haven't been good, his arm feels fine and his velocity is high 80s/low 90s. So it will come down to whether he wants to pitch on an incentive-filled contract somewhere and complete the transition to finesse pitcher. Martinez, who will turn 37 in October, said he wants to pitch until he's 40. We'll see whether the Mets are willing to extend him.

Who gives a sheet? He's done. Unlsee some team is desperate for an injury prone 5th starter.

Hmmm... Mets replace Pedro with Pavano... Will the NY's ever learn?

No, the answer is no.

"He hasn't pitched well lately".....What games were the Boston Globe watching? He had a rough start the last time out (5 earned runs after he had a 7-0 lead) but prior to that he had won two straight going 7 strong each game......

He won;t get big money from anyone next year but he'd still make a decent 5th starter.

Unless he becomes a reliever or a closer, I think his career as a starter is done!!

who cares pedro is washed up he'll give you one decent start every 3 or 4 games, is that really good enough

September 2, 2008  01:29 AM ET

I wouldn't bet against him. I still think he has got two good years in him. He has been through a great deal in the last few years. Some of these nagging bs injuries would go away if he could get back in routine. Dude always seems to be rehabbing something.

'It depends just how done he is, If he is REALLY done then expect him in Minnesota next year.'

That's not so funny...and, in this case, thank goodness it's not true. Twins have a VERY good rotation. All young, all getting much need experience this year, all signed for years, AND all with ERAs under 4.00.

If they spend money on FA, should be on bullpen help if they can't get some from the minors.

Their offense, though not full of power hitters, still produce a bunch of runs and they're all young and getting better. Wouldn't mind a power hitting 3B, but other than that...
