The Panthers believe their pending trade for Bryan McCabe from Toronto for Mike Van Ryn will give them four very good defensemen ( Jay Bouwmeester, Keith Ballard, McCabe, Bryan Allen), and they will consider trading Bouwmeester only if he doesn't agree to a new contract before the March trade deadline.

The leafs should add SOMEBODY to the trade they are making to get this guy.

torque1, how about Jeff Finger? ;)

August 31, 2008  02:13 PM ET

ANYBODY!

They are getting rid of everyone so they can "rebuild". What exactly are they going to rebuild with? I understand they need to get younger but.........They need some sort of NHL caliber players.

I said before that the Leafs should sign Parrish. He could play on their top line on the right wing. Maybe the 2nd line right winger at worst. He's help them out.

bostongm, good point. Parrish could help them out, even though he's just a drop in the bucket. The Leafs need at lesat 7-8 nhl-ready forwards...

There's nobody on the Leafs that is equal to quality of a player as JayBo. He's one of the best young defensemen in the league.

The Panthers will have a pretty decent defensive group and goalie but that's about it. They need some good fowards now. JayBo isnt going to stick around unless they try and put a competetive team on the ice.

"Panthers want to keep Bouwmeester" Really? Breaking news this one! I want 10 million dollars and a super model girlfriend, but I don't see that happening any time soon either. Barring a miracle, J.B. will be dealt at the trade deadline b/c he wont sign a long term deal there.
