The Mets will choke again this year.

Al Reyes was very good for the Cards in 2005 before he got hurt, and I thought he had a good year for the Rays last year......what happened to him this year?

September 1, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Stupid is as stupid says.

You can't 'choke' when you don't 'own' first place. If the Mets were up 7 games, and lost, you could say that. The Mets don't have a history of choking, unless you are 13 years old and 2006 & 2007 were the advent of your baseball experience.

With a bullpen this awful, the Mets are actually over-achieving.

The bullpen can use all the help they need. The bullpen will dictate whether or not they make the playoffs this year. - Ari Orakciyan

Rheal Cormier..... he's fresh off the olympics and could help out!

September 1, 2008  02:38 PM ET

a leakey pen could be the result of an enlarged prostate, try flomax

September 1, 2008  06:49 PM ET

lol. each one is like 45 years old wow

September 1, 2008  07:31 PM ET

Mets pen looked good today against the Brewers.......The pen will get a lot of help from the expanded roster. If nothing else, it will get the regulars some rest.

Mets are actually playing great baseball. If they had any kind of bullpen they would be up 7 or 8 games. Everytime their pen blows a game they come back and run off another winning streak. This team, believe it or not, could be very dangerous in October. Since Aug 11 they are 15-6 and 5 of the losses were in games they had the lead going into the 8th inning.

Actually, you can choke even if you don't have first place. By the way, they're in first anyways.

The Mets have Wright, Reyes, Beltran and Santana, who are all among the best players at their respective positions. They have one of the biggest payrolls in MLB. They choked away a 7-game lead with 17 to play last year, or have you already forgotten that too?

The Mets don't necessarily have a history of choking, you're right about that. They have a history of underperforming. They just choke some of the time.

September 1, 2008  11:36 PM ET

say bye bye mets thats one of the worst pens in the league, they should have traded for fuentes at the deadline

September 1, 2008  11:47 PM ET

the mets pen would get smashed around by a t-ball team at times

injuries are costing them and makes things worse but as was said earlier ' The Mets have Wright, Reyes, Beltran and Santana, who are all among the best players at their respective positions' in the team so it wont matter

you cant have guns at all positions

come the business end of the season when the rotation is trimmed a starter will get work late in the innings and the bashers will actually see how bloody good the mets really are

Let me get this straight. Phillies fans, who root for a team that HAS a 100+ history as THE BIGGEST LOSING FRANCHISE IN ALL OF SPORTS, not just baseball, who have won ONE...let me repeat that, ONE World Series in 100+ years are making fun of the Mets? Granted the Mets blew a huge lead last year, but historically the franchise has won 2 World Series (one was an historic upset of the mighty Orioles in '69 and one was a comeback worthy of all comebacks against the Sox in '86). Not to mention the two pennants won in 1973 and 2000, and wild card entrance in 1999 in their 46-year history. Come on, spare me. It's bad enough living in a city with Yankee fans who are arrogant. But at least THAT franchise has proof to boast 26 championships. Why dont you win and then you can talk trash. If you make the playoffs this year, try not getting swept like last year. How pathetic!!

And how'd the mets do last year? Now that's pathetic!!!
