The Hornets have not made any contingency plans yet if Hurricane Gustav causes damage to the Alario Center or New Orleans Arena. The Hornets do not begin training camp until October, but team spokesman Harold Kaufman said at the close of business Friday, the franchise temporarily shut down its operations so employees could make their evacuation plans.

Byron Scott and Chris Paul.
Two point guards. Each with two first names, including last names that could be used as first names.

If the Hornets are looking for a new home, I hear that Seattle has become available.

September 1, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Well, maybe Byron Scott was a shooting guard not a point guard, but he probably backed up Magic Johnson at point guard sometimes and filled in as point when Johnson needed to fill in for other positions himself.
Anyway, he was a guard, so close enough.

There was Katrina, and now Gustav. Why are Russian names used to label forces of destruction?
Doesn't the government know that the Cold War has been over for over 15 years?
Why the ongoing propaganda?

Maybe the Hornets can also consider moving to Las Vegas. Vegas was mentioned as a possible upcoming NBA expansion city.
However, with the recent referee gambling fiasco, I wouldn't be surprised if Stern decides to have the NBA stay away from Vegas for a while, until things die down and the voices are silenced.

September 1, 2008  12:16 PM ET

Bottom line - everyone in Gustav's path stays safe and out of harm's way - nothing else matters !!!

September 1, 2008  12:41 PM ET

Wow! Even our hurricanes are Immigrants. Gustav?

Thanks Hllywd. I needed the laugh.

hornets why dont u move to vancover or seattle , there u gonna be safe no hurricanes

September 1, 2008  04:24 PM ET

I like New Orleans, but why would someone want to live in a soup bowl?

September 1, 2008  09:00 PM ET

i agree they should move to Vancouver, canada needs another nba team

September 1, 2008  09:33 PM ET

I don't agree on that one. I wouln't let the Hornets finish in Vancouver. First ask the Grizzlies why they moved... Think it's all about business, so I guess CP3 wouldn't stay long
Smarter thing to me would be sharing an arena with another team on a reliable place like they do in LA.

September 1, 2008  09:38 PM ET

Kansas City Hornets?

St. Louis Hornets?

Alabama Hornets?

Louisville Hornets?

Albequerque Isotopes?

September 1, 2008  10:22 PM ET

Seattle Hornets, Las Vegas Hornets, those are more probable. Kind of hard to draw a crowd when every few years a weather event destroys the city.

Kansas City Hornets sounds most probable if the team ever moves outta New Orleans... They're so desperate to fill their brand-spanking-new arena they'd probably give them a cut of all events and concerts held there, and be as close to a "free" lease as humanly possible for a good 5 years. If anyone thinks George Shinn has any sympathy or compassion for the people of New Orleans and wants them to stay..... I think the people of Charlotte would like a word with you.

---Amendment. NOLA has sold a ton of season tickets for this year, so if anything ever happens, it'll still be a few years to see if this affects anything. I'd think Kansas City Grizzlies is more along the lines of what will happen... after all, there actually WERE grizzlies in that area at one point... so it isn't as crazy a name as the Utah Jazz or Memphis Grizzlies (unless you visit a zoo).

man the hurricane is getting coverage from the hornets in the offseason, this is the weather channel.

And Animal Planet... but whatever. It's the offseason.
