Royals GM promises changes
It's September and, once again, the Royals are light-years from playing meaningful games. So what now? General manager Dayton Moore is as mad as anyone. That was evident last weekend as he sat in the dugout at Comerica Park in Detroit, lips drawn tight, while watching his club work its way through batting practice. Moore is vowing major roster changes before the club gathers next February for spring training in Surprise, Ariz. In short, Moore has seen enough. The current mix of players isn't working. His solution is to make another major push this winter in the free-agent market while escalating efforts to revamp the roster through trades.

LOL..LOL..LOL.. I lived in KC five years from 2002-2007,, Same words with no real plan... sad but KC is clearly going no where. Get a new owner and management team and then after a few years.. maybe.

The wacky thing is that Moore actually thought they were going to be so much better with this year's lineup!
Listen Dayton, the major part of your current difficulty is the fact that you are dealing with a pinch penny owner that has refused for years to adequately capitalize the baseball operation. He's done great at raising ticket and concession prices and been excellant at cashing and pocketing the checks from the luxury tax clubs.
Your team needs to spend money on scouting, drafting and developement. Unless you plan to spend like the Yankees, the free agent market will not turn your club around. Thinking that because the Rays, Marlins and Twins are doing it on the cheap means anyone can is wrong. Remember what I said about scouting etc. That's how they are doing it Dayton. Until the Royals can match them there nothing will happen....

This is the first year that the Rays have been doing it on the cheap, so to speak, it is more like the rays are doing it on the basis of having been so bad for so long and all the #1 picks that got them. Marlins, tading talent for a ton of prospects, some work out and thjey trade them for more prospects, kind of the Twins methodology. The A's might be a better model, the fact that they are not doing well this year just shows that even with a plan that works there is no gaurantee. But you need a plan...

We hear the same thing about the Pirates. Until one of theses bottom feeders actually achieve something, it will all be nothing more than lip service.

Not sure they have to spend all that much. I heard U.L. Washington is willing to play for peanuts as long as the Royals supply all the toothpicks. Amos Otis also threw his name into the mix. But I think he's just a publicity hooooor.

MLB is no stronger then it's weakest link...I think KC qualifies as that link. But the funny thing is, back in the mid 80's when KC was always winning AL West titles and WS's rings and the Twins were the cellar dwellers, I used to hate them. Now the Royals are just sad.
