Yankees will start Joba in '09

Joba Chamberlain can start getting acclimated to life in the bullpen again, but he shouldn't plan on staying there beyond the next few weeks. "He's a starter who is pitching out of the bullpen," GM Brian Cashman said yesterday, penciling Chamberlain into the team's starting rotation for 2009. The Yankees will try to maximize their usage of Chamberlain until then, making him their primary setup option for Mariano Rivera.

Great.....go out and lose too. Give that boy A-Rod a kiss.

September 2, 2008  07:50 AM ET

They should have done this in Spring Training 2008......

September 2, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Considering Moose and Petitte are ancient and their contracts are up, Hughes can't stay healthy, Kennedy stinks, Ponson's a joke that has been VERY lucky this year, Wang is coming off an injury and Rasner is a long reliever at best that's hardly news.
They shouldn't put him in the pen this year. Either continue the rehab and simulated games until he can start or shut him down completely.

JC,
Easy there, they are not that bad, for example, Moose is pitching pretty good for an ancient guy...
But I agree, if he is going to be a starter, use him as a starter or shut him down.

is this the first time you've laughed since 1994?

September 2, 2008  12:07 PM ET

okay get over it the Yankees aren't making the playoffs for 13 years.

September 2, 2008  12:33 PM ET

The Yankees will NEVER again enjoy their late '90's dominance with the Steinbrenner **** running the show.

September 2, 2008  12:41 PM ET

Funny because they had some pretty good success with the father running the show. I think they will, I think that so long as they continue down a moderate path of developing their own and adding through FA, they can be successful, that is how the last dynasty was formed.

there gona screw jobas arm up switching him so much

September 2, 2008  02:01 PM ET

I still go along with the Goose, keep him in the pen, set up and eventually the closer. It's where he does his best work. Now sign a couple of FA, (leave him open as a SP if not) for 09, then go with wang, and a forth and five starter, mike mussina may have enough for the 4/5 spot. Hmmm, lets see: CC, wang, Burnett, pavano(on one year to prove himself, and Mussina for a one year deal) pen: Veras, Bruney, Coke, Marte, Geise, Joba and Mo. Not bad. defense: tex, cano, jeter, A Rod, Posada, molina, I rod? maybe, if posada can't throw, dh? matsui, Manny, OF: Abreu, damon, nady, bench: gonzales, gardner, Betermit. In the AAA working for the big show, Hughs, kennedy, Christain, etc.

I got it all figured out, manager? Why Torre of course, and Ron G, Don Mattingly...Girardi? Bench coach, of course, as he has a little more to learn from the master.

Obligatory daily Joba story. It's mandatory.

dum dum, I have been laughing at Yankees fans my entire sports fan life. Whether they're silly team wins a World Series or not, Yankees fans still are not based in reality.

Joba Chamberlin is from Lincoln, NE, I watched him pitch in college, and his father worked in the same job as I do. I hope he rips Little Steiny for about $50 mil. Other then that, enough with the f*cken daily updates.

Joba Chamberlain,
it's a fist pumping good time.
