Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer did not place any blame on kicker Daniel Lincoln after Monday's 27-24 overtime loss to UCLA. Lincoln missed field goal attempts of 51, 55 and 34 yards, and the last one came in overtime and sent UCLA to victory.

Tenn didn't look that bad....and sometimes UCLA made them look even better. But that kid Craft showed that he can bounce back after a tough 1st half; that impressed me.
Some bad decisions were made in that game last night......why would you let the kid attempt a 55 yard FG after he had just missed from 51 yds? Fulmer should have pooched it down field and tried to pin UCLA deep in their own territory.

First of all best game I've seen in a long time. Tennessee was "out coached" and lost to a UCLA Team that was playing their third string QB. If you can't beat a team that throws 5 interceptions then there is a problem. Tennessee has many good players but no QB at this point. Nice win for UCLA, Tennessee over rated.

SEC won all but 2 of our games, come on man..or woman? Having said that, Thanks UCLA! Good win, Craft for heisman!

September 2, 2008  07:57 AM ET

Oh nevermind, you are from Ohio, now i understand that comment. get the crap beat out of you year after year by the SEC and then bash them, hilarious

September 2, 2008  08:01 AM ET

Agreed that Tenn got outcoached......and neither QB looked that great. Gotta give some props to UCLA's defense; they really did hang tough and get the job done....of course, three missed FGs helped quite a bit too.

September 2, 2008  08:07 AM ET

You gotta admit that headline is funny, coach doesnt blame kicker who missed 3 field goals. That would be 9 points there FULL-mer

September 2, 2008  08:10 AM ET

It is funny Yardbird......I knew Lincoln was gonna miss that FG in overtime; the other two misses just 'got in his head'. Being an FSU fan, WIDE LEFT (and wide right) are not unusual to me at all. LMAO :-)

UT deserved to lose that game. The QB for UT was awful as was his counterpart. But the UCLA guy was 3rd string!!! I keep saying that SEC fans and I am one disrespect Pac 10 ball. I think the difference is not that the Pac is better top to bottom, but that the Pac knows how to score. Pac = Offense. If you struggle against the Pac and don't take advantage of the turnovers by converting points you can lose to most of the Pac teams. Also, UCLA had a pretty good defensive line. UGA had better not take ASU lightly. They are a well coached team with a very good QB. Much better then UCLAs.

September 2, 2008  08:24 AM ET

As a huge SEC fan I loved that game! UCLA is on the rise with great coaches. Tennessee clearly got outcoached and outplayed. Tenn. was by far the superior team from a talent standpoint but they couldn't put it away. Look out for UCLA in years to come. The new OC for Tenn. has to get better than that.

September 2, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Clawson's playcalling was horrendous. Norm Chow had some great calls - little dip dunks and 3 step drop passes. Also, what happened to UTs defense? This is a beef I have with W. Martinez as well. The dropped back into that soft zone - WTH?! Martinez does that too especially when he starts feeling comfortable. The UCLA QB was 3rd string, but to his credit he got it turned around in the second half. The reason was Chavis's zone d and great dip dunk and seem passing by Chow. UCLA also increased the tempo and it looked like UT couldn't group. So I'm thinking maybe UTs depth is not as good as suspected and thier OLBs looked like they had trouble pass covering. The secondary looked great but Chow just started setting up the mismatches with TE and OLB and WR and OLB. Wow...what a coaching job by UCLA!

September 2, 2008  08:58 AM ET

Exactly! Those coaches will turn around UCLA in a hurry. Tenn. should have won by 2 touchdowns but completely got outcoached. Good for UCLA!

September 2, 2008  09:18 AM ET

UT is in partial meltdown right now. With Florida coming up their season could be over quickly. If UF lays the wood in K-ville look for complete meltdown. Then @Auburn the following week, @Georgia, Alabama at home and @SCeast. They lose 3 of those 5 for an 8-4 record. UT fans will be asking for his resignation. This could be the year SCeast finishes 3rd.

September 2, 2008  09:34 AM ET

I thought Tenn's OC looked in over his head.

September 2, 2008  10:10 AM ET

Give UCLA credit. They entered that game as huge underdogs and took it to the Vols all night. They won that game and walked off the field the better team. Vols CAN get better,

(No, 35, Wilson, is useless.)

September 2, 2008  10:10 AM ET

Tennessee QB absolutely sucked but let's be perfectly clear here - if they had snapped directly to a tail back and run the damn ball on every down, they very well could have won the game.

Like ATLfan15, I had a strong feeling that the kicker was going to miss it in OT. It's in his head and that's it. But how did it get in his head?? The kid's CAREER best was 48 yards (and he made the 47 yarder to force OT) - WHOSE decision was it to make him kick twice (three times actually) from 50+ years?

September 2, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Before the season started, I questioned the decision to sign Fulmer to a fat contract. I thought it was time for him to go, and my argument was based on the fact that he hasn't done anything (i.e. winning a SEC title) since 1999 with the talent pool (top 5 recruiting classes in the nation several years in a row). I was immediately attacked by some Tennessee fans that know a lot more about football than me.

You happy now?

September 2, 2008  10:17 AM ET

ZZDAWG-- Didn't the running back from UT fumble the ball when they were marching down the field that would have put them on top 21-10?

September 2, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Fulmer is a horrendous coach!! Always has been that way. He has stayed around because of his recruiting classes... but I think he will be gone after this season. Taking way too long to get rid of him... He may have changed offensive coordinators but he still runs the show and the coordinator has his hands tied.

SEC dominance?

hahaha....losing to UCLA with a BACKUP QB....
