Demoted Leinart staying positive

Two days after losing his starting job, Matt Leinart didn't look like a guy who needed his spirits lifted or confidence bolstered. Dripping sweat and preaching teamwork, Leinart said all the right things to reporters on Monday and, more importantly to the Cardinals, appeared to mean them. Leinart's demotion already has prompted discussion about his future in the NFL, even though he's just 25. Coach Ken Whisenhunt described Leinart as "upset" when told of the demotion on Saturday, but the quarterback seemed to find some perspective over the next two days. Warner and Leinart have talked about the situation and remain good friends, they said.

He's a baby. Whining because he can't be better than Warner/ Boo-ghoo-hoo. Someone give hima a pacifier, please.

Leinhart blows! Warner is a better person, quarterback, and leader than this **** will ever be. Grow up! Your still making millions unless you've beer bonged it all away.....****!

September 2, 2008  08:11 AM ET

Of course he's staying positive. They didn't demote his paycheck. I wouldn't feel too terrible if all I had to do was stand on the sideline, hold a clipboard, listen to the plays and be ready to go in if the guy doing the hard part is hurt. Kaching!!

Danny Wuerffel....Heath Shuler......Leinart?

September 2, 2008  08:19 AM ET

We do crappy teams take these hyped up players, and then they turn out to be busts most of the time?

September 2, 2008  08:20 AM ET

more time for partying since he has to spend less time studying plays.

Just what he always wanted!

I'm glad to see he is staying positive about things.....they'll likely need him at some point this season,

How do you know Warner is a better person? And what difference does that make about him playing?

September 2, 2008  09:04 AM ET

All in all even though half you people out there are clueless it was nice for once to get some Cardinal chatting going, whats gonna be funny is all the negativity against this franchise that people were posting don't know squat about Cards & its roster, BUT when they start kicking butt this year, you people will be the 1st ones jumping on the bandwagon, but its not getting by me, I personally am the Cardinals police dog and I gotcha all of ya, hope I am right, anyway good like to all your fav teams, I am expecting a huge breakout year from my beloved Birds, Peace rings

How smart are all the GM's for letting this guy drop in the draft..........

September 2, 2008  09:46 AM ET

jgb - maybe smart, maybe not. Look at the coaching staffs that Leinart has had over him. Guarantee if he went to a coaching staff that actually develops quarterbacks and a more competitive town, he'd be much better off. The Arizona Cardinals are a farm team for the rest of the league, except nowadays they actually sign their players to long contracts and don't make ridiculous trades.

hitman | 09/02/08, 08:43 AM

Well "hitman", first there is all the charity work that Warner does. I don't see any coming from Leinhart. Or haven't heard of any. Second, I haven't seen any pictures posted of Kurt out partying it up with "barely legal" groopies while he should be somewhere else helping out his team get better. Lastly, when have you ever heard of Kurt having a hissy fit because of his roster position. Now, what do you have that says any different......hitman....that's what I thought....nothing

September 2, 2008  09:47 AM ET

azcardsfan - you fans out there have been saying that since like the War of 1812. You'll finish 2nd in your division, but that's because you've got the 49ers (lol) and the Rams, if you can even beat them twice.

Jumping on the cards bandwagon? haha..that would be a first. I can't speak for anyone else, but I am a Kurt Warner fan. I don't care if he is past his prime. He proved he can get the job done, and hes pure class.

September 2, 2008  09:52 AM ET

C-smith: the Cards will challenge for this division. I understand that it is difficult to believe, given the Cards history, but they had significant injuries on defense last year....Berry, Wilson, etc.....and they were still 8-8. The Defense will be vastly improved this year. This team will surprise people.

September 2, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Leinart showed the same "positive" attitude after the loss to Texas: "we're still the best team." In his mind, he's still "the best QB." He doesn't do any charity work or anything else for anybody because his world his himself. Mattie, your NFL career is going to be brief.

September 2, 2008  11:01 AM ET

why isnt he starting werner is old and its not like the cards are going to win a champonship. so get the kid in there that is gonna be your QB in the future and give him his licks.

September 2, 2008  12:04 PM ET

If you don't install a good offensive line, you can put Superman in at QB and not get the results you want. That's why teams like Detroit, Arizona, (and yes my beloved Browns) are never consistently good. They never build strong offensive lines (or d lines for that matter) and they bring in hyped QB's with the high draft picks they got from blowing the previous season. The Falcons fall into this category too, but when they had Vick he could get out of trouble with his legs (they will blow this season though because Ryan won't be able to escape).

Ever heard of Fran Tarkenton? Apparently most NFL coaches haven't.
