At least two Oklahoma athletes were injured during a brawl at a Norman nightclub that police said involved guns, knives and tire irons. Details were immediately unclear, but the university characterized the players as victims in the incident at the Sooner Knights club in southwest Norman early Sunday. Norman police said they went to the nightclub at 2:32 a.m. Sunday, about four hours after fourth-ranked Oklahoma beat Chattanooga 57-2 in its season opener, after "numerous calls to the police department reported subjects fighting with knives, guns and tire irons." Police reported two people had been stabbed and a third had been hit by a car.

Something NEEDS to be done about college atheletes and pro atheletes getting in trouble all the time. If from high school on up to the pros they were not treated like Gods this might stop happening...They have no respect and no scrupples...(sp)

September 2, 2008  09:45 AM ET

And Penn State is being criticized for thug athletes? Look at this crap!

September 2, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Wow! First time I have ever heard of OU football players and guns and knives in the same sentence. How odd.

impressed? no. Hopefully someone else will get the "Thug U" tag, because the miami hurricanes havent had any arrests in quite a long time.. cant say the same for 90% of the other programs

September 2, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Note to all football players, stay out of nightclubs, seriously. Go study your playbook.
svtjer, last time I saw Miami on sportscenter they were taking off their helmets and trying to hit people with them while their announcer cheered them on

September 2, 2008  11:39 AM ET

Why have all of these guys gotten to be such idiots?
Darwin was right, maybe all of these guys will kill each other and the somewhat intelligent will survive.

September 2, 2008  11:46 AM ET

I spent my Jr. & Sr years of High School in the city of Chattanooga, don't worry about the spelling. Did you know that that the university there (UTC) is where Terrell Owens played college football?

Players at a nightclub at 2:30 in the morning? How many of them are even old enough to drink legally?

Oh, but it wasn't their fault! Poor players, just trying to enjoy themselves at 2:30 in the morning!

Here's two thoughts of these geniuses, and others like them: 1. don't go out clubbing just because you beat some hapless Division 1-AAAAA team (especially in a small town like Norman, where your visibility is increased); 2. if you find yourself in a situation like the one described in the story, WALK AWAY.

Geniuses, every one of them.

September 2, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Maybe athlete's shouldnt be at clubs and bars at 2:30 in the morning... seems like when all the trouble occurs

September 2, 2008  12:45 PM ET

let all the chest pounding, finger pointing, chest bumping, "not in my house' idiots kill each other...please!
And give the games back to the fans and the players that realise it's just a game...
